The Birth of Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬

The Prophetic Family

Hāshim ibn ʿAbd Manāf: The great-grandfather of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬. He was the one responsible for giving
food and water to the pilgrims. He was also the first man who started Quraish’s two journeys of summer
and winter.

Abdul-Muttalib ibn Hashim: The grandfather of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬. He was the fourth chief of the Quraysh
tribal confederation. He was the incharge of pilgrims’ food and water when he reached the age of
boyhood.

Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib: The father of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬. He was the son of Abdul-Muttalib ibn
Hashim and of Fatimah bint Amr of the Makhzum clan. He was a trader who used to travel with Mecca
caravans to Yemen and Syria. Shortly before the Prophet’s (pbuh) birth while Abdullah was on a trade
journey he fell ill and passed away.

Aminah Bin't Wahab: The mother of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬, came from the Banu Zuhra tribe in Yathrib
(Madinah). Whilst on a journey to take her young son to visit his father’s grave Aminah fell ill and passed
away also.

His Birth

Muhammad or Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Hāshim ‫ – ﷺ‬the Messenger of Allah
(SWT), and the final Prophet of Islam. He is known as the final Prophet and messenger according to the
Qur'an and Sunnah.

- Muhammad derives from the Arabic verb hamada, meaning "to praise, to glorify."

Mecca, Saudi Arabia - the birthplace of Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬

Ninth of Rabi‘ Al-Awwal - it is when Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬was borm.

Miraculous Signs of the Birth of the Prophet (saw):

 A light that shone like never before

 The Persian Fire was extinguished

 The Throne Arch of Chosroes shuddered

 Fourteen royal balconies collapsed

 Lake Sa’wah ran dry


 Idols fell flat

 The devils were attacked with shooting stars

Thuwayba – the first woman who suckled Muhammad 3 ‫ ﷺ‬days after his birth

Haleemah bint Abi Dhuaib – a wet nurse that Muhammad was entrusted to for 2 years until he was
weaned
