5 WORKSHEET (INDIVIDUAL)
Using your observations and knowledge of your drugstore branches, answer the worksheet.
1. Illustrate the pharmacy layout of the chosen drugstore. You can insert a sketch of its picture or use
boxes to show the arrangement of the fixtures, placement of doors, location of pharmacy counter, etc.
2. What are the advantages of the drugstore’s current pharmacy layout? Evaluate in terms of several
parameters such as convenience for the customers, aesthetic appearance, improving purchases of
customers, etc. Give at least 3 advantages (Maximum of 3 sentences per advantage).
One advantage of the layout is that the products are near and very accessible to the personnel and
the customers. Whenever there is a high volume of customers in a certain period of time, the
personnel can quickly get the drugs and entertain the customers. Another advantage of the layout
is that the generic products are the most easily seen gondola which promotes the generic even
more. It is important because it is the goal of the partner pharmacy to promote generics and the
customers will be more positive in purchasing generics. Another advantage is that in the display, the
products in there are usually discounted products which is easily seen and accessible to the
customers. The customers can check the product itself and can have discounts.
3. Identify at least three (3) opportunities for improvement of the pharmacy’s layout/design. Elaborate
on how it can benefit the drugstore and how it can be implemented (Maximum of 3 sentences per
opportunity).
One opportunity for the pharmacy layout is having a designated medication counseling area in order
to improve the privacy between the pharmacist and the patient. There is a space beside the ordering
station that can be used as a closed counseling area. Another opportunity for improvement is a
separate counter for online transactions because I have noticed that online transactions can take a
long time to process compared to the in-store bought products. This can be implemented by having
a separate counter for online transaction.

Assume that there is only one shelf with 5 rows. Decide on the product facings and arrangement of
the medicines. There is no limit on the width of the shelf. Then, provide a brief justification on the
developed planogram (maximum of 5 sentences). Consider the relevant factors in deciding on the
arrangement of the items.
I have decided to arrange the shelf according to its therapeutic use and then alphabetically and
also considered whether the medicine can be in blister packs or in bottle. I have arranged the
maintenance medications at the top of the shelf first because they are usually the products that is
in demand. I have allocated one row for the bottled oral suspensions for it to be aesthetically
pleasing since combining it with blister packed products will look disorganized. I have arranged the
OTC medicines at the bottom since they are less in-demand compared to the prescription
medicines at the top.
