Republic Act 8293, section 176 states that: No copyright shall subsist in any
work of the Government of the Philippines. However, prior approval of the government
agency or office wherein the work is created shall be necessary for exploitation of such
work for profit. Such agency or office may, among other things, impose as a condition
the payment of royalties.
Borrowed materials (i.e., songs, stories, poems, pictures, photos, brand names,
trademarks, etc.) included in this module are owned by their respective copyright
holders. Every effort has been exerted to locate and seek permission to use these
materials from their respective copyright owners. The publisher and authors do not
represent nor claim ownership over them.
This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body
of the self-learning module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this self-
learning module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing
them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and
assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the self-learning module.
For the Learner:
This self-learning module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will
be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active learner.
This self-learning module has the following parts and corresponding icons:
Posttest - This measures how much you have learned from the
entire module.
EXPECTATION
PRETEST
Directions: Read each of the following carefully. Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1. How many terms is the product of (x + 2) (x2 - 2x + 4)?
A. 6 terms B. 5 terms C. 4 terms D. 2 terms
RECAP
Before we continue learning how to multiply polynomials, let’s find out how much you
have learned so far. Find the product of each of the following:
1. (x2 + 2x - 3) (x – 3) =
2. (y – 3)3 =
Remember:
When you multiply two polynomials, distribute each term of one polynomial to
each term of the other polynomial.
We can multiply polynomials in a vertical format just like we are multiplying
two numbers.
Solutions:
1. (x2 + 2x - 3)
X (x – 3)__ Multiply each term.
-3x2 - 6x + 9
x3 + 2X2 - 3x_____ Add the partial product.
𝐱 𝟑 − 𝐱 𝟐 − 𝟗𝐱 + 𝟗
b. The second term is three times the product of the square of the first term
and the second term.
3(𝑦)2 (-3) = 3(y2) (-3)
= (3y2) (-3)
= -9y2
c. The third term is three times the product of the square of the second term
and the first term.
3𝑦(−3)2 = 3( y )(-3)(-3)
= 3y(9)
= 27y
LESSON
simplify
= + 2 (x 2 ) + 2(−2x) + 2(4) 𝟐𝐱 𝟐 − 𝟒𝐱 + 𝟖
𝐱 𝟑 + 𝟎𝐱 𝟐 + 𝟎𝐱 + 𝟖
Answer: 𝐱𝟑 + 𝟖
Solution:
Answer: 𝟖𝒙𝟑 − 𝟐𝟕
Solution:
x 3 − 27 = ( x – 3) (x 2 + 3x + 9)
Answer: (𝐱 𝟐 + 𝟑𝐱 + 𝟗)
Can you see the pattern on how to get the product of a binomial and a trinomial.
ACTIVITIES
Solution:
1. (𝑥 + 8) (𝑥 2 − 8𝑥 + 64) =
2. (𝑦 − 5) (𝑦 2 + 5𝑦 + 25) =
3. (4𝑥 + 2) (16𝑥 2 − 8𝑥 + 4) =
B. Supply the missing expression.
a. (𝑥 − 6) (𝑥 2 + 6𝑥 + 36) =
b. (𝑥 2 − 10𝑥 + 100) (𝑥 + 10) =
c. (4𝑥 2 − 10𝑥 + 25) (2𝑥 + 5) =
2. What expression should be multiplied to the other factor to get the product.
Give the product.
𝑑. (𝑥 − 9)
d. (𝑥 2 − 7𝑥 + 49)
WRAP-UP
VALUING
Pattern in solving problem is very important. As a student, how do you deal with
your problem/s? Share your thoughts in 3-5 sentences and write these in your
notebook.
