Enabling Assessment in Multiple Regression Viesca

1. The dependent variable is 1st year graduate student GPA, and the independent variables are program, GRE analytic score, GRE quantitative score, and GRE verbal score. 2. The overall regression model is significant, as the p-value of 0.000 is less than the significance level of 0.05. The model accounts for 57.5% of the variation in GPA. 3. Based on p-values, program is not a significant predictor but the three GRE scores are significant in predicting GPA. The regression equation shows the relationship between the variables while holding others constant.

ENABLING ASSESSMENT
MULTIPLE LINEAR REGRESSION
Score:
NAME: ___Viesca, Paul Joshua M._____________ DATE: ___June 10, 2023______

COURSE/YEAR & SECTION: ___CEE11_________ PROF.: ___Sir Jerome Buhay____

Direction: Make a short report of the SPSS outputs given problem by determining which of the
given independent variables are significant to predict the dependent variable, thus creating or
identifying the regression equation or model. 20 points
1. The dependent variables is 1st year graduate grade point average and the predictors
are the program they are in and the three GRE scores.

Summarized SPSS output:

1.
Dependent variable = y = 1st year graduate grade point average
Independent variable = 𝑥1 = Program
Independent variable = 𝑥2 = Analytic subscore of GRE
Independent variable = 𝑥3 = Quantitative subscore of GRE
Independent variable = 𝑥4 = Verbal subscore of GRE

Ho: Overall regression model is not significant

Ha: Overall regression model is significant

2.
Decision Rule: Reject Ho if p-value is < α. Otherwise, failed to reject.

Test statistic: F = 45.67

α = 0.05
p-value = 0.000
R square = 0.575
(The r-squared score of 0.575 indicates that the present model can account for 57.5% of the
overall variation. It works well for model.)

3.
Regression Equation:
Y = a + bx
GPA = -1.215 + (- 6.561E-02 * 𝑥1 ) + (6.749E-03 * 𝑥2 ) + (3.374E -03 * 𝑥3 ) + ( -2.353E-03 * 𝑥4 )

𝑥1 : The computed p-value is > α, then it is not significant.

𝑥2 : The computed p-value is < α, then it is significant.
𝑥3 : The computed p-value is < α, then it is significant.
𝑥4 : The computed p-value is < α, then it is significant.

For every unit increase in Program, Analytic subscore of GRE, Quantitative subscore of GRE,
and Verbal subscore of GRE, the GPA decreases by 1.215 units on the average, holding the
other variable constant.

4.
Decision: Reject Ho since the p-value is < α.
Conclusion:
To conclude, the overall regression model is significant.
