3. Watch an actual presentation/dramatization of 2 students acting as
lovers talking about their future plans.
Instructions:
With your partner, discuss your answers to the following questions.
a. Describe the situation depicted in the video clip/drama
presentation.
b. What is the style of speaking used by the characters in the
different presentations?

Discussion Proper:
 Style is a variety of language and a distinctive manner in which
people express themselves in a particular situation (Somia, 2012)
 It is the form through which you convey your message.

Types of Speech Style


1. Intimate– This style is private, which occurs between or among close
family members or intimate individuals / lovers, and close friends. The
language used in this style may not be shared in public.
Example: Father and mother are talking their children while eating

2. Casual- This style is common among peers and friends. It used in a


relaxed or normal situation with friends or family members. Jargon,
slang, street language, gay language or vulgar words are used.

4. Formal- This style is used in formal settings. Unlike the consultative


style, this is one-way.
Examples: sermons by priests and ministers, State of the Nation
Address of the President, formal speeches, or
pronouncements by judges.

IV. ASSESSMENT: (Product/Performance) by group


 Form four groups. Each group will be working with another group. All
groups will write a story in formal style for 5 minutes. This can be a
simple story from a fairy tale or any book, movie, or television show.
Then, exchange stories with another group. Translate the story into a
casual style. You have 5 minutes to create the story. After completing
the stories, assign a volunteer who will share the story`s casual version.
