Assessment

This document provides instructions for an assessment task requiring students to develop a digital outcome using iterative processes. It outlines the key steps, including planning components, trialling techniques, testing functionality, and addressing implications. Evidence of iterative development and testing must be submitted, such as planning documents, test records, and the final outcome.

Internal Assessment

Achievement standard: 91884

Standard title: Use basic iterative processes to develop a
digital outcome (6 credits)
Credits: 6
Resource title: 100% ‘Pure?’ New Zealand
Resource reference: Digital Technologies | Hangarau Matihiko
1.8A Version 2

Task

This year you will be making a Digital Outcome. The definition of a Digital Outcome
goes:

“A digital outcome is a product that is developed using a digital device.”

In this assessment standard you are developing a Digital Media Outcome to make a
difference in your local community.
While carrying out this development you will use iterative processes and you will
record evidence of how you develop the outcome

Context
Below are some ideas for problems or opportunities in your community that you
could think about.

1
You might think about
 Groups you are involved with (charities, church, youth club, marae, iwi, club)
 Environmental issues (litter, pests, pollution)
 Social issues (domestic violence, mental health, drugs, alcohol, drink driving)
 Campaigns (social justice, sexism, racism, homophobia, drug reform, assisted
dying, etc)
 Things you want more of (MTB tracks, youth centres, careers advice, etc)
 Supporting the school (visiting students, new students, students with problems)
 Help with subjects/learning (help with Te Reo, help with maths, games to help
learning)

While you complete AS91884 you will be gathering evidence for by using iterative
processes throughout.

You need to take the following steps:

 Decide on how you can effectively present this information to the local community
using a digital media outcome.
 Break down your outcome into the components that need to be included and add
those into your planning
 Undertake your planning in a manner that suits the outcome and could include
sketches, wireframes, storyboards, or mock-ups. You may use online interactive or
collaborative planning tools.
 Trial the components, tools and techniques to be included and refine your outcome
based on evidence of your trialling.
- You must show evidence that you have trialled multiple components and/or
techniques and have selected the ones that will work best for the purpose of
the outcome.
- Your trialling should be done in an on-going, iterative manner.
 Carry out testing iteratively to improve and refine your outcome. You must show
evidence that you have applied appropriate testing procedures to ensure accuracy
of data and that your outcome functions as intended.
 Describe a range of implications that are relevant to your outcome. Include
evidence of how you have addressed these in the process of developing the
outcome.
 For example:
- How have you addressed ethical or intellectual property issues?
- How have you ensured that your outcome is usable and functional for your
end users?
- How have you ensured that your aesthetic elements are appropriate for your
end users and have enhanced usability?
You are going to be assessed on how well:
 you apply appropriate tools, techniques and design elements in developing your
2
digital media outcome
 you apply an iterative development process to improve and refine your digital
media outcome
 your digital media outcome has synthesised information from your planning, testing,
and trialling to improve the quality of the outcome you have described and
addressed relevant implications in your final digital media outcome.

A template has been provided to help you document the components you use and the
relevant implications. You may use the logbook template to record what you do in each
lesson.

You should set up a trello board to gather evidence of how you follow iterative
processes.
 Your trello board should make clear
 What components your outcome has been split into
 Who worked on each component
 When components were tested/trialled, what this testing/trialling involved and the
results of it
 Relevant implications being tested/trialled or being addressed

3
Assessment Criteria
Use basic iterative processes to plan and develop a digital outcome
 planning a digital outcome to address a problem, need, opportunity, or interest
 developing the digital outcome by decomposing the problem into components
 planning and trialling components to be included in an iterative manner
 planning and testing that the digital outcome works
 describing social implications and end-user considerations that are relevant to the
outcome.

Use basic iterative processes to plan and develop an informed digital

outcome involve:
 showing evidence that information from testing, trialling and prototyping has been
used to improve the outcome
 planning for testing, and using information gained from testing to inform
development
 trialling multiple components and/or techniques and selecting those which ensure
the outcome functions as intended
 addressing relevant social implications and end-user considerations in the outcome.

Use basic iterative processes to plan and develop a refined digital outcome
Applying information from planning, testing and prototyping of components to develop
a high quality outcome.

What you will be assessed on

You will be assessed on how well you do the following.
 Describe and address implications related to the outcome.
 Plan the digital outcome to address the stated problem, need, opportunity, or
interest.
 Manage the development of the digital outcome by breaking it up into smaller
parts.
 Trial and test the outcome, and use information from trialling and testing to
improve the quality of the outcome.

4
Evidence to be submitted
You need to submit the following to your assessor.
 The completed digital media outcome – in electronic format.
 All planning you did for the digital outcome (including each of the smaller parts
of the outcome that you planned).
 Records of how you completed trialling and testing when developing the digital
outcome. This could include a trialling/testing plan, annotated screenshots (eg
showing the version/part of the digital outcome you have tested and changes you
made as a result of testing), a vlog showing how you conducted testing,
stakeholder feedback records, etc.
 Your description of relevant implications and how you addressed these
implications.
 A screen recording of your completed digital media outcome as testing

Make sure the following are clearly indicated on all evidence you submit: Your name

 The Achievement Standard number (AS91884).
