Vee-kerchief Pattern

The Vee-Kerchief pattern is loosely inspired by The Owl House, and is beginner friendly. The
finished piece has a height of about 11” and a base of about 18”, plus two 8” ties; this can be
adjusted according to preference. Please respect and follow the publishing guidelines outlined
in the pattern footnotes. Enjoy!

Materials

- 4.5 mm crochet hook; similar sizes can be used, but this may affect final size
- Worsted weight yarn in:
o Colour A: Olive Green
o Colour B: Dark Blue
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors

Terminology (US):

- Ch: Chain
- Ch sp: chain space
- Sl st: slip stitch
- Sc: single crochet
- Hdc: half double crochet
- Dc: double crochet
- Tr: triple crochet
- Picot: number of chains in a picot will be denoted as ‘(number) ch picot.’ Chain the
number of chains indicated, then slip stitch in the first chain made.
- Inc: increase; the type of stitch will be denoted as ‘(stitch) inc’
- Granny cluster: 3 double crochets worked into one chain space.
- FO: finish off
- Instructions bracketed by [] are to be done in one stitch OR chain space as indicated.
- Instructions bracketed by {} are to be repeated as indicated

This piece is worked in three parts. The main piece is worked in rows to make a triangle. The
edging is worked around the main piece. The ties are a chain joined to the main piece as you
go, with its ends worked in the round with edging added.

Pattern:

MAIN PIECE:

In Colour A;

- Ch 6, sl st to first ch to form a ring. You will begin Row 1 in this ring.


- Row 1: Ch 4 (counts as a starting dc + ch here and throughout), 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 1, dc.
Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 4. In ch sp, [granny cluster, ch 1]. In the 3 ch sp, [granny cluster, ch 3, granny
cluster, ch 1]. In the next ch sp, [granny cluster, ch 1, dc]. Turn.
- Row 3: Ch 4. In each ch sp until the ch 3 space, [granny cluster, ch 1]. In the 3 ch space,
[granny cluster, ch 3, granny cluster, ch 1]. In each ch sp until the last, [granny cluster, ch
1]. In the last ch sp, [granny cluster, ch 1, dc]. Turn.
- Row 4-14: Repeat Row 3. FO.

You can add or remove the number of rows according to preference.

EDGING:

Using Colour B, you will crochet around the edges of the triangle you just made. Joining in the
corner you just FO’d;

- 2 sc in the corner ch sp. Sc evenly along the base of the triangle, adding 3 sc for each
double crochet and 2 sc in the starting ring, until you make it to the second corner.
- In the second corner, 5 sc, rotating the piece to continue crocheting along its edge.

Working along the top of the double crochets and chain spaces;

- 11 sc, {sc, hdc, [2 dc, 3 ch picot, 2 dc], hdc,} 11 times, [sc, hdc, 2 dc, tr, 4 ch picot, 2 dc,
hdc, sc] in ch 3 sp, {hdc, [2 dc, 3 ch picot, 2 dc], hdc, sc} 11 times, 3 sc in the corner, sl st
to join in first st. FO.

TIES:

You will start by working in the round. In Colour A;

Tie End:

- Ch 6, sl st into first ch to form a ring. You will work Round 1 into this ring.
- Rnd 1: 2 sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc – 14 st total plus ch 2 sp.

- Rnd 2: Sl st into first sc to join the round, this counts as the first st of Rnd 2. Sc, 2 hdc,
hdc inc, 2 dc inc, [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in ch 2 sp, 2 dc inc, hdc inc, 2 hdc, sc, sl st. Join the
round with a sl st into first st – 24 st total plus ch 2 sp.

DO NOT FO. Continuing off the last sl st, ch 30 - or to preferred length.

Sl st into the 3rd sc of the top right corner of the edging. Sl st across the top edge of the piece
until the 3rd sc of the top left corner.

Ch 36 – or to preferred length + 6 ch. Sl st into the 6th ch from your hook. In the loop created,
repeat the instructions for the tie end. FO.

Your kerchief should now have two ties with an oval at each end.

TIE END EDGING:

Work in the round. Repeat this section for each tie end. With Colour B;

- Join at the finishing sl st of Rnd 2 of the tie end. 4 sl st, 2 sc, hdc inc, 3 hdc, 2 ch picot,
hdc, [3 dc, 4 ch picot, 3 dc] in ch 2 sp, hdc, 2 ch picot, 3 hdc, hdc inc, 2 sc, 4 sl st. Sl st to
join in first st. FO.
