Math 6 DLP 22 - Writing The Fraction Described by A Region Set and Number Line

This document provides instruction on writing fractions described by regions, sets, and number lines. It includes examples of dividing different shapes into equal parts and naming the fractions for each part. Learners are guided through examples of representing word problems involving fractions using regions, sets, and number lines. The key concepts covered are the parts of a fraction, types of fractions, and writing fractions for given regions, sets, and points on number lines. Learners complete practice exercises and self-assess their understanding.

MATH
WRITING THE FRACTION DESCRIBED BY
A REGION, SET AND NUMBER LINE

A DepEd-BEAM Distance Learning Program supported by the Australian Agency for International Development
To the Learner

Hi! Have a nice day, my dear learner! How are you today? Did you
have fun with your previous modules?
This is your first module for the Second Grading Period. So, get
ready for the next challenge.

Let’s Learn This

This module is about “Writing the Fraction Described by a

Region, Set and Number Line”.

Let’s Try This

Directions: Divide each figure equally according to the number of

parts given. Then name each part.

1.) 4.)

Let’s Study This

Writing the Fraction Described by a Region, Set and Number Line

Let’s read and understand the problem below.

Dino likes sandwich very much. One morning, he bought a
sandwich and divided it into 2 equal parts for him and his
sister, what part of the sandwich did he and his sister get?

The idea can be represented as fellows:

1.) In a region / set

As shown, 1 sandwich (representing 1 region) is divided into 2

equal fractional parts. Thus, Dino and his sister got 1 fractional part
each out of 2 equal fractional parts or 1/2 part each of a region.

-2-
2.) In a Number Line

Solution:

Here’s another example:

A bibingka is to be divided equally into 4 parts.

Request the fractional part 3/4.

1.) In a region / set

Solution:

The shaded part shows 3 fractional parts out of 4 equal fractional

parts of 3/4 part.

2.) In a number line

Solution:

The line from 0 to 1 is divided into 4 equal’s fractional parts.

The fractional part 3/4 is shown in the number line.

Let’s Remember This

A fraction is one or more of the equal parts of a whole. It

can be described by using region, sets and number line.
The parts of a fraction are the numerator, the fraction bar
and the denominator.
The numerator tells how many of the parts are taken while
the denominator tells the number of equal parts the whole
was divided. The fraction bar means divided by.
 There are kinds of fractions:

- Proper fraction is a fraction less than one whole. Its

numerator is less than its denominator.
Ex. 2/4, 3/5, 6/10

- Improper fraction is a fraction greater than or equal to the

whole. Its numerator is greater than its denominator.
Ex. 3/2, 5/3, 10/8

- Mixed number is a number containing a whole number and

a fraction.
Ex. 3 1/2 , 2 3/4 , 6 2/3

- Similar or like fraction are fractions whose denominators

are the same.
Ex. 5/6, 3/6, 4/6, 1/6

- Dissimilar or unlike fractions whose denominators are not

the same.
Ex. 2/5, 3/4, 6/8
