Application
Sera Fix C-PV and Sera Pad M-PV have been developed for one-step dyeing
processes with specially finished and standardised Caledon SF liquid dyes. Their
fastness properties have been tested for these dyes. When formulating the dye
liquor, both products should be diluted with sufficient amounts of water. Make
sure the products are added in the order given. Resin finishing with
recommended products can be combined with dyeing. If other products are
added to the liquor, their compatibility and liquor stability must be tested before
use.
The liquor formulation should be prepared carefully and the instructions must
be followed in the correct order. This product combination was tested in the
dyeing conditions specified below. To ensure good stability of the dye liquor, set
the liquor in the weakly acidic range with acetic acid.
Place soft water (20 - 35 °C) equivalent to half the required total liquor volume
in the formulating vessel and add the products in the order given below. They
should be added through a sieve or textile filter and the liquor should be stirred
slowly while they are added. It is advisable to incorporate an additional filter
when the liquor is fed to the padder.
30 - 40 g/l Sera Fix C-PV (stir directly into the liquor)
5 - 10 g/l Glauber's salt calc. (dissolve in warm water before use)
10 - 20 g/l Sera Pad M-PV (dissolve in cold water before use)
… g/l Caledon dye (dilute with cold water before use)
Then add soft water up to the final volume and set the liquor at approx. pH 6 by
adding acetic acid.
If resin finishing is combined with dyeing, the following should also be added to
the liquor before the dye:
30 - 60 g/l Drywear 554 (dilute with cold water before use)
8 - 12 g/l magnesium chloride cryst. (dissolve in warm water before use)
Then add soft water up to the final volume and set the liquor at approx. pH 5 by
adding acetic acid.
Application procedure
- Pad with liquor pick-up of 50 - 65% (as low as possible)
Liquor temperature: < 35 °C
- Intermediate drying at 100 - 140 °C, preferably with reduced air circulation
at the start
- Thermofixation for at least 30 s
- Cellolosics: at 170 °C
- PES/cellulosics: at 190 °C
- PES/cellulosics after finishing: 180 °C
Note
Sera Fix C-PV, Sera Pad M-PV and Glauber's salt must never be mixed with each
other in concentrated form. Never add hot solutions of Glauber's salt to the dye
liquor.
