3 0 3 2 −2 −1  
(a) (b) (c) (d) −2 3 0 .

2. Let 𝐴 be an 𝑛 × 𝑛 matrix and 𝛼 be a scalar such that each row (or each column) sums
to 𝛼 . Show that 𝛼 is an eigenvalue of 𝐴.
3. Let 𝐴 ∈ C𝑛×𝑛 be invertible. Show that 𝜆 ∈ C is an eigenvalue of 𝐴 if and only if 𝜆 −1
is an eigenvalue of 𝐴−1 .
4. Show that eigenvectors corresponding to distinct eigenvalues of a unitary (or or-
thogonal) matrix are orthogonal to each other.
5. Give an example of an 𝑛 × 𝑛 matrix that cannot be diagonalized.
6. Find the matrix 𝐴 ∈ R3×3 that satisfies the given condition. Diagonalize it if possible.

(a) 𝐴(𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑐)𝑇 = (𝑎 + 𝑏 + 𝑐, 𝑎 + 𝑏 − 𝑐, 𝑎 − 𝑏 + 𝑐)𝑇 for all 𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑐 ∈ R.

(b) 𝐴𝑒 1 = 0, 𝐴𝑒 2 = 𝑒 1, 𝐴𝑒 3 = 𝑒 2 .
(c) 𝐴𝑒 1 = 𝑒 2, 𝐴𝑒 2 = 𝑒 3, 𝐴𝑒 3 = 0.
(d) 𝐴𝑒 1 = 𝑒 3, 𝐴𝑒 2 = 𝑒 2, 𝐴𝑒 3 = 𝑒 1 .
