Leadership in Rapidly Changing Environments

Assignment
This assignment is intended to give you an insight into the challenges facing today’s business
leaders of the kind that many of you aspire to become. To do this you will consider the
complexity associated with defining (and hence understanding) leadership, the challenges
leaders face within the context of rapid change (such as the aftermath of the pandemic,
Brexit, and accelerated use of technology) and the potential solutions available. Your learning
will be consolidated by bringing the concepts from lectures together and applying them to an
organisation you are familiar with.

Task:
Provide a critical discussion of
1. The challenges faced by today’s business leaders.
2. The potential solutions to these challenges.
Apply your discussion to an organisation you are familiar with. This should be an
organisation in private or public sectors, which operates at a scale which is sufficient to
provide you with evidence for your assignment.

Recommended structure
1. Introduction (Identifying your organisation) (approx. 450 words)
2. Critically discuss the challenges for leaders (approx. 500 words)
3. Critically discuss potential solutions (approx. 500 words)
4. Apply points 2 and 3 above, to your organisation of choice (approx. 1100 words)
5. Conclusion (approx. 450 words)

The indicated word lengths are for guidance to you in preparing a balanced report – a single
overall grade will be given for the integrated report together with comments on your
content.

Further advice

Write, concisely, a report of three thousand words (+ or – 10%) and four sections and a
conclusion, guided by the word lengths indicated above – use subheadings to clearly
signpost content of your report.

Use appendices for data about the company, and the main body of your report for
analysing, interpreting, evaluating that data. Appendices are NOT included in the word
count.

Acknowledge all sources in a Reference List, using the Harvard Referencing System
(combining industry and academic sources).
