Class 9 Linear Equations in Two VariableS 2023-24
Level I
1. Write each of the following equations in the form 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑦 + 𝑐 = 0 and Indicate the
values of a, b and c in each case:
(i) 2𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 4.37
(ii) 𝑥 − 4 = 3𝑦
(iii) 4 = 5𝑥 − 3𝑦
(iv) 12𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 20
Level II
5. If (2, 5) is the solution of the equation 5𝑦 = 𝑏𝑥 + 13, then find the value of b. (ans:11)
6. If the point (3, 4) is the solution of the equation 3 y= ax + 7,then find the value of a. (ans: 5/3)

10. The parking charges of a car at certain place in Delhi is ` 50 for first one hour and ` 10 for
subsequent hours.
(a) Write the equation, for the above situation
(b) Read the charges (i) for 2 hours (ii) for 8 hours (ans: ` 60, `120)
Level III
12. The cost of 3 tables exceeds the cost of 5 chairs by 100. Write the linear equation in two
variables to represent this relation. Also, find the cost of one table if the cost of one chair is 100.
(ans: 200)
13. The cost of 5 kg apples are 150 more than the cost of 7 kg grapes. Write the linear equation in
two variables to represent this relation. If the cost of 1 kg grapes is 70, then find the cost of 1 kg
apples. (ans: ` 128)
14. Two players A and B together scored 40 runs in a cricket match. If there is no extra run scored in
their partnership, then represent this information in the form of linear equation in two variables.
Also , find the runs recorded by player A if runs scored by player B is 10.
(ans:30)
15. The force exerted to pull a cart is directly proportional to the acceleration produced in the body.
Express the statement as a linear equation of two variables and draw a graph of the same by
taking the constant mass equal to 6 kg. Find the force required when the acceleration produced is
a. 5m /sec2
b. 6m/sec2 (ans:30N,36N)
16. In a one – day International Cricket match, played between India and England in Kanpur, two
Indian Women Cricketers Mithali Raj and Harleen Deol scored 200 runs in a partnership including
5 extra runs, Express this information in the form of an equation in two variables.
17. If x years represents the present age of the father and y years represent the present age of the
son , then find the equation for the statement “ the present age of father is 5 years more than 6
times the age of the son.
18. A rabbit covers y meters distance by walking 10 meters in slow motion and the remaining by
x jumps, In each jump the rabbit covers a distance of 2 meters. Express this information in
the form of an equation in two variables.
