1. Write each of the following equations in the form 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑦 + 𝑐 = 0 and Indicate the
values of a, b and c in each case:
(i) 2𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 4.37
(ii) 𝑥 − 4 = 3𝑦
(iii) 4 = 5𝑥 − 3𝑦
(iv) 12𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 20

2. Find four different solutions of the equation 𝑥 + 2𝑦 = 6.

3. Form an equation in two variables with the given information:

The number of ducks is three more than three times number of hens, and the total of all hens
and ducks is 156.

Level II

4. Find the value of 𝑝 , if 𝑥 = 1, 𝑦 = 3 is a solution of the equation 2𝑝𝑥 + 𝑦 = 9. (ans:3)

5. If (2, 5) is the solution of the equation 5𝑦 = 𝑏𝑥 + 13, then find the value of b. (ans:11)

6. If the point (3, 4) is the solution of the equation 3 y= ax + 7,then find the value of a. (ans: 5/3)

7. If 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 7 and 3𝑥 – 2𝑦 = 11 are linear equations, then find the values of 𝑥

and 𝑦 such that they will satisfy both these equations. (ans x =5, y = 2)

8. Find the value of 𝑘 for which 𝑥 = 2 and 𝑦 = 1 is a solution of equation 2𝑥 + 6𝑦 = 𝑘.

(ans:10)

9. Find the value of k in the equation 2𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 𝑘, where 𝑥 = 2 and 𝑦 = 3 is the solution

of the equation. (ans:13)

10. The parking charges of a car at certain place in Delhi is ` 50 for first one hour and ` 10 for
subsequent hours.
(a) Write the equation, for the above situation
(b) Read the charges (i) for 2 hours (ii) for 8 hours (ans: ` 60, `120)

11. Given equation 3𝑥 + 2𝑦 = 18 , Express 𝑦 in terms of 𝑥 and 𝑥 in terms of 𝑦.

variables to represent this relation. Also, find the cost of one table if the cost of one chair is 100.
(ans: 200)
13. The cost of 5 kg apples are 150 more than the cost of 7 kg grapes. Write the linear equation in
two variables to represent this relation. If the cost of 1 kg grapes is 70, then find the cost of 1 kg
apples. (ans: ` 128)
