Hello teacher, i’d like to take a quick moment to introduce myself. My name is Thuy
Anh, i’m 18 years old. And I come from Ha Noi. Now I’m a student at Hanoi Medical
University, with a major in nursing, an advanced program. I choose to study Medicine
because of my family. There are 6 peoples in my family including my parents, 3
younger sisters and me. I’m the oldest sister so I want to help my parents by studying
hard and getting a good job. I think I’m an optimistic, friendly and out-going person so
I have many friends and other social relationships. In my freetime, I usually go
hanging out with them. I’m very interested in looking for restaurants and cafés with
nice views to take pictures. I’m also a generous and easy-going person but when it
comes to work I’m a competitive perfectionist. Five years from now, I want to become
a professional nursing or study abroad. In my major, English is quite important and it
will benefit in my future career. Learning English is difficult for me but I will try my
best to use it fruently. Thanks for listening.
Topic 1: Last weekend
My last weekend was great, interesting, wonderful, amazing … . I went back my
hometown last weekend.
On Saturday, I got up late, then I went to the market with my mother. I cooked meal
with my mon, and I had lunch at 11:00. After that I took a nap. In the afternoon, I
played football with my friends in my hometown. In the evening, I watched TV with
my parents and went to bed at 22:00 o’clock.
On Sunday, I just stayed at home and prepared for my new week. I enjoy sleeping
most because I have to study all 5 days of the week, and I don’t have enough time to
sleep. Therefore, I spend my weekend sleping.
I enjoy cooking most because it’s a necessary activity for my future life, and I feel
happy when I help my mother cook meals.
Topic 2: Transport
My favorite means of transportation is a motorcycle. Nowadays, traffic is very
disorderly. The roads are narrow and have many potholes. So I think that motorcycle
is a good choice in the current situation. This kind of vehicle is more flexible than
cars. In addition, the price of a motorbike is suitable for my salary.
The motorcycle is very useful for my life ad my job because it helps me save a lot of
time, when I go to school, as well as working. I can control the time easily when
riding a motorbike to my student’s houses for tutoring. Now, it is still necessary to me.
I have been driving it for more than 3 years. Although there is dangerous when I
attend in traffic, I still love riding a motorcycle.
I know that because the infrastructure in our country is not very good, traffic jams or
accidents often happen when many kinds of transportation means attend on narrow
streets at the same time. Anyway, I think that not only me but also a lot of people like
to ride motorbikes like me. In short, the motorcycle is the most popular transportation
means vehicle in our country.
Topic 3: Neighborhood
I have very good relations with my neighbors. Actually my best friend is my neighbor.
I spend most of my leisure time with my neighbors as I know them since my
childhood. I can share all my feelings with them and they can also do the same.
I try to help out my neighbors as much as I can. Last year a child was cycling in the
street and suddenly he fell which caused him a lot of bleeding. I rushed towards the
child took him in my arms. There was nobody around me so I had to take him to the
hospital alone. As I was going towards the hospital I was getting worried and tears
were coming out of my eyes and the child was just like a little brother to me. I reached
the hospital on time and my neighbor got all the medical attention he needed.
I feel that a person should have very good relations with their neighbors because they
are living close to us and they can provide us immediate help; furthermore, my
religion has ordered me to keep good relations with the neighbors. We should try to
lessen the grief of our neighbors and try to share our happiness with them.
Topic 4: Festival or celebration
Tet holiday is my favorite festival. You call called it Vietnamese Lunar New Year. It
is the most important festival in Vietnam, our country. Before New year's Eve, my
family and I are going to decorate the house with a mandarin orange tree, worship the
ancestors. We are also going shopping for new clothes to wear on the occasion of Tet.
The symbols of the Tet holiday are apricot blossom or cherry blossom, so we are
deciding to buy one apricot blossom and cherry blossom. During Tet, all my family
members gathering together. At Tet, many customs are practiced such as giving lucky
money to children, exchanging New Year's wishes, or going to pagodas to pray for a
healthy life. Not only that, the parallel sentences are hanging indoors by the people
because it brings good luck to everyone. Everyone shouldn't break things or fight on
the first day of Tet. On the Tet holiday, people often eat square glutinous rice cake and
cylindrical glutinous rice cake. But by Tet, it is definitely indispensable to have a five-
fruit tray.
Topic 5: Gift
I am going to tell you about a gift I received. It was a smart phone from my father on
my 15th birthday. Well, having a smart phone on my own was my dream. I needed it
for its benefits. So I was jealous of my friends who had smartphones. Therefore I was
very happy for my birthday present. My smartphone looks nice, slim, and light. It was
covered with gorilla glass, touch screen in the back, in the front respectively. As you
know, using a smartphone is not difficult, especially for young people who are
accustomed to modern technology. So I find it easy to use my phone as well. To use it,
you only press the power button and unlock your phone by password or fingerprint.
Then you can add apps to your phone by going to the app store or play store. After
that, All you need to do is to tap your apps to enjoy them.
This present is very important to me because it is what I desired for a long time. More
importantly, my smartphone from my father who I love most.
Topic 6: Restaurants
My favourite restaurant is a Japanese restaurant near my house. I don’t know the name
because I can’t read Japanese very well, but I often go there and always enjoy it. Of
course, they serve Japanese food there, such as sushi and sashimi, but there are many
other types of dish. It has an extensive menu. They also have draft and bottled beer, as
well as a few spirits.
The restaurant is unique because although it is a Japanese restaurant, it has a lot of
Beatles memorabilia. They also pay lots of Beatles music there, which I think is
strange. People are always confused when they enter because outside it looks like a
typical Japanese restaurant, but inside it is a mix of eastern and western design.
The restaurant is located not far from my house, in a mall situated in the city’s
downtown area. I really like it because it’s got great food and the service is better than
most places around here. It’s also quite clean.
Topic 7: Mishap
Accidents are unwanted, and it sometimes causes severe damage to people who suffer
from it. There was one such severe accident I witnessed a few months back while I
was travelling by car from my office to home. The accident occurred when a bike
collided with a car, and the bike rider died instantly. I was completely horrified by it.
It was approximately 5 p.m., and I was on my way home from my workplace as
though it were any other working day. There were traffic jams on practically every
road. I suddenly heard a number of people screaming across the road as I went on the
flyover. Slowly, I made my way forward and noticed a huge crowd. I parked my car
on the corner of the road out of curiosity to see why there were so many people
gathered and screaming. I crossed the road and approached a man who was already
there and asked why there were so many people there. He informed me that an
accident occurred only 5 minutes ago. An SUV car driver was driving aggressively
and, when he lost control of his speed, collided with a bike rider, who died on the spot.
The car driver also attempted to flee the scene, but witnesses gathered and summoned
the police and ambulance.
I was astonished when I learnt about the accident, and I’ll never forget seeing the
motorbike rider’s corpse drenched in blood. I still can’t get that out of my head.
