How to synthesize coupling matrix
 1. Filter Information

1. In “Filter Information”, user can input the filter order,

Center Frequency, Bandwidth, Return Loss, Q in terms
of the design specification;
2. The “ ” allow user to switch Center
Freq/Bandwidth into Star/Stop Freq format;
3. The “ ” allow user to reset the Q information if
user input the wrong information by mistake;
4. By Clicking the , user is allowed to define the non-
uniform Q information; by click “ ” to reset the Q
information to infinity

 2. Transmission Zeros

Real Frequency Format Normalized Frequency Format

1. By click , the input format will be transferred from defaulted real frequency to normalized frequency; for an
N'th order filter, maximal N finite transmissions zeroes can be specified. SynMatrix360 defaults the real frequency
format where is placed at the second column as the normal input;

2. In the normalized format, the real and complex zeros are always in pairs no matter with symmetric and
asymmetric filter response. Therefore the number of real zeros and the number of complex zeros must be even
numbers. For imaginary zeros, the number of zeros is even for symmetric response and odd for asymmetric
response.

1. Not all defined topologies can be synthesize-able, SynMatrix360 still offer the
optimization tool to allow user to optimize their defined topology;
2. If the current synthesized matrix is not varying with the new defined Corresponded S Parameter
transmission zeros position, that matrix is by means of optimization way. It may
affect the coupling matrix extraction performance;

 3. Physical Topology & Dispersive Effect

1. The topology can be defined by clicking ”Edit Topology” and the

topology definition dialog will pop-up. User can define their
wanted topology by checking the matrix box.

2. Initially, SynMatrix360 will default Chebyshve type topology as the

initial one. If user doesn’t define the topology and wants to
synthesize the filter with/without transmission zeros,
SynMatrix360 will apply the folded canonical matrix.

3. For “Filter Dispersion” please refer to the “SynMatrix360—

1. In Graphic Display area, the generated S parameter and Group Delay (S21) based on the synthesized matrix will
be displayed once user click “Calculate All”. User can zoom in the plot by single left clicking the graphic.

2. The corresponded stored energy curve based on current defined topology will be displayed as well. User can
refer the application note “SynMatrix360---Application Note 5---Power handling” to obtain more information on
how to predict the peak power handling value.

 5. Matrix Information----Edit Matrix & Data Saving

1. SynMatrix360 provides different options to allow user to edit the matrix. User can click the “ ”
to zoom the matrix if filter order is very high while editing the matrix if necessary;

2. User still can edit the matrix by clicking “ ”. The user interface will be changed as below and
once user click “Done Editing”, the edited matrix will be saved and transferred to computer aided tuning
function as the golden matrix.

3. User can fine tune the matrix without changing the center freq and bandwidth by clicking “ ”
blue circled arrow. For more details user can refer “SynMatrix360—Application Noite1—Fine Tune”

 5. Matrix Information---- Edit Matrix & Data Saving

1. User can click the “ ” to export the coupling matrix in txt format ; alternatively, user can

export the S2P data file by clicking “ ” the arrow aside the “Export” button.

2. User still can upload their own matrix file to SynMatrix360 for multi-purpose, such as peak power
handling analysis, dispersive effect analysis, group delay checking, coupling matrix extraction ect.

3. Please be noted that if you want to upload your own matrix file, SynMatrix360 only accepts the file
with “.txt” format; meanwhile the filter order must match with the current filter order setting. Once
the matrix file has been uploaded, the “calculate all” button will turn in to “Reset” like below to allow
user retrieve the original setting;
