Radian Measure Worksheet 1

This document contains 6 problems involving calculations with radians and circles. Problem 1 involves finding the length of a minor arc and perimeter of a shaded region given the central angle measure. Problem 2 calculates the length of a minor arc and area of a shaded region. Problem 3 finds the length of a major arc and perimeter of a shaded region. Problem 4 deals with a right triangle inscribed in a sector, finding the central angle measure and area. Problems 5 and 6 both involve finding arc lengths, perimeters, and areas using given information about central angles and radii.

Radian Measure Worksheet 1

1. The following diagram shows a circle with centre 𝑂 and radius 10 cm.

Points 𝐴 and 𝐵 lie on the circle and ∠𝐴𝑂𝐵 = 2.2 radians.

(a) Find
(i) the length of the minor arc 𝐴𝐵,
(ii) the perimeter of the shaded region.

(b) Find the area of the shaded region.

2. The following diagram shows a circle with the centre 𝑂 and radius 8 cm.

Points 𝐴 and 𝐵 lie on the circle and ∠𝐴𝑂𝐵 = 1.4 radians.

(a) Find the length of the minor arc 𝐴𝐵.

(b) Find the area of the shaded region.

3. The following diagram shows a circle with centre 𝑂 and radius 8 cm.

Points 𝐴 and 𝐵 lie on the circle and ∠𝐴𝑂𝐵 = 2.7 radians.

(a) Find
(i) the length of the major arc 𝐴𝐵,
(ii) the perimeter of the shaded region.

(b) Find the area of the shaded region.

4. The following diagram shows a right-angled triangle 𝐴𝐵𝐶 and a sector 𝐴𝐵𝐷 of a circle with
centre 𝐴. The point 𝐸 lies on 𝐴𝐶 such that 𝐵𝐸 is perpendicular to 𝐴𝐶. The region 𝑅 is
bounded by 𝐷𝐸, 𝐵𝐸 and arc 𝐵𝐹𝐷.

Given that 𝐴𝐵 = 5 cm,𝐴𝐶 = 13 cm and 𝐵𝐶 = 12 cm,

(a) find ∠𝐵𝐴𝐶, giving your answer in radians.

(b) Find the area of 𝑅.

5. The following diagram shows a circle with the centre 𝑂 and radius 𝑟.

Points 𝑃 and 𝑄 lie on the circumference of the circle and ∠𝑃𝑂𝑄 = 1 radian. The perimeter of
the shaded region is 18 cm.

(a) Find the value of 𝑟.

(b) Hence, find the exact area of the non-shaded region.

6. The following diagram shows a circle with centre 𝑂 and radius 5 cm.

Points 𝐴 and 𝐵 lie on the circle and ∠𝐴𝑂𝐵 = 2.1 radians.

(a) Find the length of

(i) minor arc 𝐴𝐵,
(ii) chord 𝐴𝐵.
(b) Find the area of the shaded region.
