Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan: Numbering for 7th Grade Math Students

Objective: By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to understand
and apply different numbering concepts, including rational numbers,
integers, and real numbers. They will be able to represent numbers on a
number line, compare and order numbers, and perform operations with
rational numbers. This lesson aligns with the following Indonesian National
Standards for Mathematics:

Standard 1: Understand the concept of numbers and apply number

operations.
Standard 2: Apply mathematical concepts and operations in solving daily
life problems.

Materials:

Whiteboard and markers

Number line posters
Number cards (rational numbers, integers, and real numbers)
Worksheet handouts
Calculators (optional)

Introduction (10 minutes):

1. Begin the lesson by asking the students to define what numbering

means and why it is important in mathematics.
2. Write the word "Numbering" on the board and ask the students to
brainstorm different types of numbers they have learned so far. Write their
responses on the board and provide examples for each type of number
(natural numbers, whole numbers, integers, rational numbers).
3. Explain to the students that in this lesson, they will expand their
understanding of numbering, including rational numbers, integers, and
real numbers.

Activity 1: Number Line Exploration (20 minutes):

1. Divide the students into small groups.

2. Distribute number line posters and number cards to each group.
3. Instruct the groups to place the number cards on the number line
posters, representing different types of numbers.
4. Have each group present their number line to the class and explain their
reasoning for the placement of each number.
5. Engage the students in a class discussion about the placement of
numbers and how different types of numbers are related to one another.

Activity 2: Number Comparison Game (15 minutes):

1. Explain that the class will play a game to practice comparing and
ordering numbers.
2. Divide the students into pairs and provide each pair with a set of
number cards.
3. Instruct the pairs to take turns drawing two cards and comparing them.
4. The students should use the symbols < (less than), > (greater than), or =
(equal to) to compare the numbers.

5. Encourage the students to explain their reasoning for each comparison.
6. After a few rounds, switch pairs and repeat the game to promote more
practice and engagement.

Activity 3: Rational Number Operations (25 minutes):

1. Hand out worksheets with rational number operations (addition,

subtraction, and multiplication).
2. Review the rules for adding, subtracting, and multiplying rational
numbers with the class.
3. Model a few examples on the board and explain the steps involved in
solving each operation.
4. Allow the students to work on the worksheet independently or in pairs.
5. Circulate the classroom to provide guidance and support as needed.
6. After completing the worksheet, review the answers as a class and
address any misconceptions or questions.

Conclusion (10 minutes):

1. Recap the main concepts covered in the lesson, including different

types of numbers, number line representation, number comparison, and
rational number operations.
2. Discuss real-life applications of numbering and how these skills can be
used in everyday situations.
3. Assign relevant homework or practice problems to reinforce the
concepts learned in class.

Alignment with Indonesian National Standards:

Standard 1: This lesson addresses the concept of numbers and the

application of number operations through activities such as number line
exploration and rational number operations.

Standard 2: The activities in this lesson promote the application of
mathematical concepts and operations in solving problems, such as
comparing numbers and using rational numbers in real-life situations.
