Learning Episode 6: Enhancing a Face-to Face Learning

Environment

PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST

Given the concepts and the infographic, can you participate and assist in
a face-to-face learning environment?
As a future educator, I can participate in and contribute to a face-
to-face learning environment by providing students with a safe, fair, and
conducive classroom environment in which everyone is free to ask
questions and participate in class. I will encourage students to share
their thoughts, interact with one another, and provide feedback on
something or the lesson. In addition, I will allow students to work
independently as well as in groups to create and develop their social,
creative, and analytical thinking skills in order to get a better result from
their task output. Furthermore, because we are in this new curriculum, I
believe I will be able to employ a variety of teaching strategies that will
greatly benefit and assist in a face-to-face learning environment. I believe
that I can use technology to engage my students in class and encourage
them to reflect on and explore their learning.

NOTICE
Having been exposed to the traditional classroom in your basic
education. It seems that everything is familiar. However, as teaching-
learning evolve over time there are changes that taking place.
What changes have you noticed in face to face classroom space?

ANALYZE
What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning
environment now?
I believe that changes are taking place in the face-to-face learning
environment as a result of the incorporation of technology into the
classroom, which provides effective learning environments. It has an
impact on how chairs and tables are arranged, and there are spaces that
must be reserved, among other things.

From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do. How
will you do it?
The most significant changes I believe I can make are to the overall
layout of the classroom; I plan to make my classroom more creative by
utilizing available technologies. I believe that I should focus on things
that remove distractions from the classroom and help students develop.

REFLECT

Do you think making the learning environment conducive for a face-to-

face classroom will enable the learners to achieve better learning
outcomes? Yes Explain your answer.
I believe that if the classroom is conducive, it reduces distractions
within the classroom, the students will continuously absorb the learning,
and they will learn how to reflect and explore on the learning they
received.

OBSERVE
What common problem have I noticed in the face-to-face learning
environment?
◼️The noisy environment, as well as the overcrowding of students
in and out of the classroom.

Can I translate this problem into a question?

◼️What can we do to help students deal with such a situation?

REFLECT
How would I solve the problem?
◼️By establishing and enforcing the rules and policies that
students need to achieve a good and relaxing classroom environment.

Will it improve my teaching? _Yes_ How?

◼️It assists me in improving my teaching so that I can be more
focused on the lesson and provide a better learning experience. It also
allows students to be more focused on their studies while still allowing
them to interact with one another.

PLAN
What will I do to solve the problem? Describe briefly how you will do it.
◼️I would design something unique so that my students can follow
netiquette both inside and outside of the classroom. Students develop
their morals, attitudes, and become more disciplined in a given situation
as a result of this.
Portfolio Entry
Title: The face-to-face learning environment

Describe the physical environment

The physical environment refers to the overall design and layout of
a given classroom and its learning centers. Teachers should organize the
space furnishings, and materials in the classroom to maximize learning
opportunities and engagement for all students. To do so effectively,
teachers can use the Universal Design for Learning concept, which
emphasizes that the environment and the materials contained within it
should be accessible to all. Making this accessibility possible may entail
providing books at various reading levels, placing materials on a shelf
within easy reach, or providing enough space for a wheelchair-using
child to move around the classroom.

Describe the psychological environment

The psychological environment is without a doubt the most
difficult and one-sided in nature. Teachers express their attitudes,
excitement, values, and principles within the psychological environment.
When they begin their educational journey, most students expect to be
encouraged and assisted in their learning. The psychological
environment in the classroom promotes the exchange of ideas, opinions,
and attitudes, as well as the asking of questions and the investigation of
concerns.

Describe the social environment

The term social environment refers to how a classroom's
environment influences or supports interactions between young children,
teachers, and family members. A well-designed social environment
encourages positive interactions between adults and children and allows
adults to help children achieve their social goals. Teachers must plan
activities that take the following factors into account in order to create a
classroom environment that promotes positive social interactions.
Learning Episode 7: Making On-line or Virtual Learning
Environment Safe and Conducive

NOTICE
Unlike the traditional face-to-face classroom environment, online
or virtual environment is a bit difficult to manage. It is because Virtual
Learning Environment (VLE) is imaginary and not in the physical sense. I
has no corners or walls and it can it can be set up with the support of
technology.

 As a teacher, what have you discovered to be easy to implement in

your virtual class?
As a teacher, it is not easy to adapt into a new modality however we
have to continue for the sake of our students. There are some changes
that we have to consider, one of these is the setup wherein we are
physically talking to laptops and not to our students. In spite of that
there are also things that I have discovered during those times. First,
students easily share their insights and perspective in our virtual
classes. Second, other students who have the privilege to access
technology which is very useful during this time of pandemic, can apply
their skills and expertise in creating projects and outputs using
technology. Lastly, there is an active participation in the learning
process.

 How did the students show their active participation?

Students show their active participation through involving in our
virtual discussions. They open their microphone keys and raise their
hand keys in the google meet when they want to say something or want
to express their ideas about our topics. Furthermore, they create
impressive outputs for the reason that they were given ample time to do
their tasks.

ANALYZE
Which of the following is/are your analysis/analyses of online learning
environment?
Check one or more.

_____It was difficult to observe the physical behavior of the students.

_____It takes time for the students to learn how to use the platform.
_____Students who are alone in their home space find difficulty to make
responses.
_____Internet connectivity is a great factor to support a conducive
environment

REFLECT
 As a future teacher I feel that the on-line learning environment can
be safe if we will educate our learners first in using technology and
technological platforms. Through these they will be able to learn
the proper etiquettes and responsibilities of using technology and
its platform. In consequence, we can prevent unnecessary things
to happen. Indeed we could help them to discover new things and
their skills and talents as well.
 I think that teaching in virtual environment is quite challenging
because of the circumstances that we have. We were deprived from
the things that we can do or perform more. We are restricted to do
the things that we want because of the pandemic. However, we are
still blessed that we still have the chance to continue studying.

WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE: Identify the problems brought by the on-line environment

o Students do not know how to read.
o Students find it hard to comprehend.
o There student who find it hard to socialize with other people or
students.
o There are learning gaps.

REFLECT: How would you solve the problem?

o We should have remedial classes that will help them to recall their
previous learning enable to connect with their lessons in the
present.
o Students need counseling and briefing for them to know what they
are going through.
PLAN: What initial plan do you tend to do to solve the problem?
o Conduct assessments to identify those students who need remedial
classes.
o Observe the students and have a checklist that will serve as a
guide if there are students who need counseling.

 Use measurable and observable behaviors.
 Convey expected behaviors.

MY CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

Philosophical Statement
When time comes that I am already in the field of teaching, I will
ensure that I will create enjoyable, motivating and safe and learning
environment for my students. Moreover, students are free to express
their thoughts and opinion yet with respects.
Classroom Rules and Procedures
On the first day of classes, I will orient my students about rules
and regulations inside the classroom. This will guide the throughout the
year. Likewise it will also help me to discipline my students.
To ensure the discipline of my students, I will establish classroom
rules and procedures such as:
 English speaking policy
 Wearing shoe socks inside the classroom is a must.
 Show your teacher respect and pay attention to what he or she
is saying.
 Be considerate of your classmates.
 Be prepared for class.
 Raise your hand to speak if you want to.
 Remain silent when your teacher speaks.
 Share new concepts
 Maintain a clean classroom at all times.
 Stick to the seating arrangement.
 Use positive language.
 Remain alert at all times.
 Take part in the discussions
 Obey all school regulations.
 Be on time.
 Finish your homework on time.
 Tell the truth.
Teacher-Students Relationships
Building a good relationship with the students is very important.
Since teaching is about touching lives of the students we must be willing
to embrace them and be connected with them. Upon knowing and
understanding our students we may be able to discover their interest
and learning strategies. By knowing them, we can make a teaching
strategies that would fit to their learning styles and uplift a conducive
learning environment.
There must be an open communication wherein they are free to
express their ideas and thought about the lessons and the classroom. I
will treat them with respect so that they will also respect not just me as a
teacher but also their classmates. Treating them a friend but with
boundaries.
Schedules and Timeframes
In terms of time and scheduling, I will organize my class schedule
based on what my co-teachers and I agreed upon. I should always
consider my coworkers' and students' perspectives. I will make every part
of my lesson interesting and interactive in order to keep my students'
attention on the task at hand. I should always draw the attention of all of
my students, even those in the back. I should also take into account
their emotions and circumstances

Classroom Structures, Designs and Arrangements

I will ensure that the room is properly ventilated and provide
materials that will aid in the growth and development of my students in
order to create a conducive learning environment in my classroom. There
will be also bulletin boards that will update the students in their daily
tasks and other school related activities. I'll also include some technology
that we'll use in class on a daily basis. Furthermore, in my classroom, I
will eliminate anything that can cause distractions and stress.
Classroom Safety Rules and Procedures
To ensure the safety and security of my students, I will provide a
medicine and first aid kit cabinet in case something goes wrong. Aside
from that, I should get rid of anything that could be dangerous, such as
knives, chemicals, or anything else.
For security reasons, the classroom should have two doors and a
fire extinguisher. I will impose rules such as requiring students to notify
me or a security guard if they have any concerns, posting a cellphone
number in case of an emergency, and prohibiting students from leaving
campus during class hours to ensure their safety.
Strategies for Rewards and Consequences
I intend to impose class rules and procedures that will hold
students accountable for their actions and I believe that students will
comply if sanctions and rewards are attached to each rule.

NOTICE
After reading and reviewing in the classroom/ remote learning
management plan from different sources and creating your own plan,
answer the following questions.

 What salient components have you noticed?

I noticed that as teachers, we should always be aware of
each student's needs. In order for students to learn and reflect, we
must always consider their level of comfort. This episode will focus
on classroom routines and procedures.

 Why there is a need to utilize the information to create your

classroom management plan?
I believe there is a need to use the information to create my
Classroom management plan because having different options for
what rules and procedures are more effective for students will help
me as a teacher to have an effective classroom management plan
for diverse students.

 What were the significant things that you noticed when you were
implementing your plan?
The most important thing I've discovered while putting my
plan into action is that planning is the key to having a well-
managed and organized classroom. The Classroom Management
Plan assists students in focusing on learning and understanding
what is expected of them. One of the primary goals of this plan is
to provide a healthy and effective learning environment while
preventing distractions within our school.

 Were there items in your classroom/ remote learning management

plan which were not tailored to the needs of your students? How
will you improve on these?
No, and I believe that in order to improve, I should focus on
the items that they will use rather than those that will only be
displayed in the classroom.

ANALYZE
1. What elements in your classroom/ remote learning
management plan were mostly followed/ complied with?
The cleanliness of the classroom and the students' moral character
were mostly followed; respecting teachers and students, using positive
language, and so on.
2. What elements in your plan were the most difficult to
implement? Why?
Be on time" was the most difficult aspect of my plan to implement
because some students have multiple household choirs and are
frequently late for class.
REFLECT
What were your realization after creating and implementing your
classroom/remote learning management plan?
I understand the importance of having a classroom management
strategy. It not only reminds students of their school responsibilities, but
it also assists in the development of the student's mind in order for the
student to have a good moral character. Because there are no
distractions, it also helps my students focus on their studies.
