Lesson Plan Demo

This lesson plan teaches students how to find the area of composite figures formed by combinations of basic shapes like triangles, squares, rectangles, and circles. It includes objectives, resources, procedures, examples and exercises. The procedures involve identifying shapes, reviewing area formulas, matching shapes to formulas, making a composite figure in groups, and presenting. Examples show calculating the area of composite figures by finding the individual areas and adding or subtracting as needed. Students practice finding the area of given composite figures.

PROCEDURE A. Preparation
:
Energizer: Sing a song “Shapes are Everywhere”.

Drill: Identify the figures below.

Review: How to get the area of the shapes above?

(Present the Matching type visual aid).

Match the figures in column A with their corresponding formula (area) in column B.

COLUMN A COLUMN B

1. Triangle A. l x w

2. Square B.  x r x r

3. Rectangle C. ½ x b x h

4. Circle D. s x s

B. Motivation

Making Spatial Figure

1. Group the pupils into three (3).
2. Provide each group a piece of manila paper and a marker.
3. Let them make one (1) spatial figure from the shapes being identified.
4. The last group to finish will be the first to present their output, followed by the
second group, and the final group to present will be the group who finishes first.
C. Presentation
Presenting their output.
1. Call the first group to present their output, followed by the second group, and
then the last group.
2. Let them show their finished output to the class.
3. Have them describe each and identify its part.

Teacher will show a picture of a house.

The teacher will ask the following questions to the pupils:

1. What is on the picture?
2. How many shapes are there in the picture?
3. What shapes can you find in the picture?
4. What do you call to the figure formed by two or more figures?

D. Discussion/Abstraction
A composite figure it is a two-dimensional figure made up of basic two-
dimensional shapes such as triangles, rectangles, circles, and etc.

To find the area of a composite figure:

 Find the areas of each figure then add them up.
 To find the area of a shaded region, you need to subtract the areas.

Example 1:

Example 2:
Example 3:

Example 4:

E. Exercises
Pair-share:
1. Find the area of the composite figure.

2. Find the area of the shaded region if the area of the square is 64 ft2.

F. Generalization
How do we find the area of composite figures?
To find the area of a composite figure, separate the figure into
simpler shapes whose area can be found. Then add the areas together. Be sure
than none of the simpler figures have overlapping areas.

G. Application
Group Activity:
Find the area of each figure. Round the answer to 2 decimal places if necessary.

H. Evaluation
Directions:

I. Agreement/Assignment
Direction: On your Mathematics notebook, solve the following and show your
solution.
