Lesson Plan in Mother Tongue (Day 2)

(First Quarter)

(Note: This lesson is to teach children to read using the Marungko Approach. This is done to find
out the whole flow of beginning reading which is broken according to the activities in Grade 1
Mother Tongue-Based Teacher’s Guide)

I. OBJECTIVES:
 Phonics and Word Recognition:
 Give the name and sound of each letter
 Give the beginning letter/sound of the name of each picture.
 Identify upper and lower case letters.
 Write the upper and lower case letters legibly, observing proper sequence of strokes.
 Match words with pictures and objects.
 Grammar Awareness:
 Identify names of animals/things that begin in letter Ss

 Producing the sound of letter Ss (PWR)
 Writing using a comfortable and efficient pencil grip (PWR)
 Writing upper and lower case letter Ss ( PWR)
 Identifying names of animals/things that begin in letter Ss(GA)

Pictures, letter cards, syllable cards, tree chart, reading chart and flashcards

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill
Letter Name and sounds of Mm, Aa, Tt
2. Review:
Reading syllable and words previously learned
Reading of phrases
(Let the pupils read in flashcards and chart)
3. Motivation
Picture puzzle (Group activity)
(Instruction: Form the picture puzzle and name what have you formed.)

Saya

Ask: What does Sisa have? (saya)


What color is it? (Red)
How did she able to buy the red skirt? (Saving money)
Value Infusion: What kind of attitude is Sisa doing? (Being Thrifty)
B. Introducing Letter Ss
Activity 1: Using the key pictures, the teacher says the sound of Ss and the children
follow. (Note: Emphasize correct position of producing sound /s/)

Activity 3: Identifying letter Ss.


(Let the pupils pick the letter Ss on a mango fruit.)

Activity 5: Writing letter Ss


a. Teacher models the proper pencil grip.
b. Teacher models the proper stroke of upper and lower case Ss.
c. Let the pupils write letter t on air, table, palm, back of their classmate
by counting the number of strokes.
d. Call pupils to write big and small letter Ss.

Activity 6: Present pictures that begin in letter Ss.


(Note: Give emphasis in sounding the /s/ sound as the beginning letter of each
picture.)

Activity 7: Show pictures to the class. Let the pupils produce the sound /s/ if the
beginning letter of the picture is Ss. Let them say “No” if it does not
begin in letter Ss.

C. Application: Differentiated Activities


Divide the class in four groups.
a. Recall the standards of group activity.
 Follow instructions.

 Cooperate with the group.


 Respect the thoughts/feedback of the members of the group.

 Talk softly.

 Participate actively.

 Stay with the group.

 Present your output in a lively manner.

b. Distribution of materials/activities.

Group I- Draw a line from the picture to letter Ss if the beginning sound of it is /s/

Group II- Encircle the picture that has a beginning sound of /s/.

Group III- Put a check in the box if the picture has a beginning sound of Ss, X if not.
