SOP LAN Deploy
Standard operating procedure to provide the cable networking for the computers in the organization.
1.0 PURPOSE:
To lay down the procedure to have common and standard networking infrastructure across the
organization through Network. To dec the procedure how net infra I deployed and upgraded.
2.0 SCOPE:
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1 Network System Administrator and HOD-IT shall be responsible for implementation of this SOP at the
organization.
4.0 PROCEDURE:
4.1 Network cable shall be Category 5 (CAT 5) or higher. The cable laying shall be done in
coordination with HOD-IT /Network Architect team and with the approval of the network team.
4.2 IT Department shall make sure that cable length is as per the specification of Unshielded Twisted
Pair (UTP) and fiber.
4.3 Fiber cable shall be laid where-ever necessary — mainly for backbone.
4.4 All the cables shall be marked with numbers for tracing and cable layout diagram is in place.
4.5 Equipment that includes network Switch and Access Points at all the locations shall relate to
MPLS or Point to Point connectivity Wide Area Network (WAN) and adequate backup is in
place in case of the primary link goes down.
4.6 IT department shall make sure that the configuration backup of the managed switch
(e.g., Ubiquiti, Cisco) and routers (e.g., Ubiquiti, Cisco) shall be taken periodically
(Whenever there is the change in configuration) and is accessible in case of equipment goes
faulty.
4.7 IT department shall make sure that Active Network Diagram is in place and updated
whenever there is any change in terms of cable route and in terms if switches.
4.8 SNMP string shall be used in case of monitoring any device on the network.
What is a SNMP string?
The “SNMP community string” is like a user ID or password that allows access to a router's or other
device's statistics.
