The Malt List

All whisky, gin, vodka and rum in this establishment is served in 35ml
measures, the largest single legal measure available in the UK since the country
was booted into the EU to make new jobs in Brussels for out of work MP’s.
Most other bars serve 25ml- what we offer is 40% more in your glass. All our
malts are served in the Glencairn whisky glass with freshly poured Scottish
spring water.

The Canny Man’s has been given the gold award by Whisky Magazine for
‘outstanding presentation, promotion and knowledge of great whiskies from
around the world.’ We have over 240 malt whiskies here at the Canny Man’s
and some are so rare that they can only be found in private collections. Looking
to experience our malt whisky in more depth? Then why not try our whisky
flights. The flights can give you a wonderful introduction to Scottish malt
whisky and the enormous differences between the distilleries and regions.
Enjoy...

Whisky Flights

Lowland Flight £18

The region that Edinburgh is in and currently home to only 4 distilleries
making single malt. The whiskies tend to be lighter in style and a great
introduction for those beginning their Scotch malt whisky journey!
Glenkinchie 12 yo
Considered ‘The Edinburgh malt’ the distillery liers only 15 miles from
where we are now. Grassy, fresh and fruity in typical lowland style.
Glenkinchie Distillers Edition
This amontillado sherry cask finish gives the malt a bit more weight
and depth over the 12yo.
Auchentoshan American Oak
Unlike most Scotch whiskies this lowland malt from the Glasgow area
is triple distilled which gives it a softer smoother finish. Matured in
bourbon casks this dram has notes of vanilla and fruit.

Speyside Flight £18

Speyside is a sub-region of the Highlands where over 80 distilleries call
their home. Generalisatio n is difficult but the low mineral content of
the water makes the whiskies somewhat lighter than their highland
counterparts.
Balvenie Double Wood 12yo
Demand is continually growing for The Balvenie due to its increasing
quality. A firm favourite here at The Cannies. Second maturation in
sherry casks results in a rich and flavoursome dram.

Glenlivet Founders Reserve

This Speyside powerhouse needs no introduction. Sweet barely sugar
and toffee come to the fore making this dram really approachable.

2
Benromach 10yo
The smallest distillery in Speyside with a total workforce of...2 but it
is not to be underestimated. A great whisky that defies its young age
of 10yo the sherry cask finish creates depth to the finish alongside
sweet spices and fudge.

Highland Flight £17

By far the largest region in terms of size that encompasses North of
Glasow all the way to the far north of Scotland and the islands. It
incorporates the widest range of styles from light and fruity to bold
and punchy.
Dalmore 12yo
This toasty and coffee rich dram is one of my all time favourites. It is
just so smooth and velvety! Created by Richard Patterson, perhaps the
most famous master blender in the world! Enjoy...
Glendronach 12 yo
My ‘go to’ distillery of the moment favoured for their heavily sherried
whiskies. Rich sherry flavours of raisins, marmalade and sultanas
makes this a delicious dram.
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban
A big staff favourite here. Glemorangie that has spent the final part
of its life being matured in port casks. A long finish of juicy fruit and
sweetness.

Islay Flight £18

The home of smoky and peaty whisky that currently has only 8 active
distilleries. The distilleries there have achieved cult status and
produce some of the most sought after whiskies in the world.
Bowmore Legend
A young and more gentle Islay malt that gives a great introduction to
peaty whiskies. Malty sweetness, light smoke and saltiness.

3
Kilchoman Machir Bay
An excellent dram from Islay’s newest distillery. It is not cheap but it
is worth it! Sherried fruits lead onto to a peaty and nicely salty finish.
Very moreish.
Ardbeg 10 yo
A true classic and World Whisky of the Year in 2008 when it was
released. Big smoke, seas salted caramel and bonfire smoke.

Rare Malts £45

Glendronach 21yo
A 21 year old Glendronach released in 2011, and aged in a mix of
sherry casks (Oloroso and sweet Pedro Ximenez dessert sherry). The
result is really very good indeed and incredibly complex. Golden
syrup, soft, juicy raisins, tangy oak notes, peach, cherry blossom,
cocoa and honeydew melon.
Glenfarclas 21 yo
Multi-award winning Glenfarclas Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky
has been distilled on Speyside for six generations by one family – the
Grants. The Glenfarclas Distillery was legally established in 1836, on
the Recherlich Farm at Ballindalloch, in the heart of Speyside. In 1865,
John Grant purchased the distillery for £511.19s which looks like a bit
of a bargain now!. A dark amber-gold, full sweet vanilla delicately
smoked with a rich and long lasting finish.

21 year old from the Glenfarclas distillery. This offers loads of depth, a
really thick dram and great value for money too.
