You should do this for each completed lab. For example, explain how Lab exercise A helped
you understand concepts X, Y, Z and elaborate how. Provide 3 connections between each
lab and lecture concept. One complete paragraph per each connection.
We are constantly overwhelmed with information about Biology and health in social
media, the news, or our daily lives while communicating with friends and family. You are
also aware that there is a good amount of that information that is unverified or not
supported by any scientific study. Your task here is to be attentive and look for an example
of fake news or unverified information related to the topics that we covered for this Biol
Journal or mentioned in class. Write one complete paragraph.
For example, recently I saw a message that circulated via ‘Whatsapp’ where it was recommended
that people added bleach to their sinks and bathrooms bowls often because the Covid19 virus
was multiplying itself in the water! You guys can tell me all of what is wrong with that piece of
misinformation right?
Viruses do not multiply on their own, they need to infect cells from living organisms (like ours) in
order to multiply and propagate. The reason why Covid19 is found in sewage is because it is
expelled from infected people’s bodies and it may not even be complete viruses since the tests we
have mainly detect their nucleic acids. Viruses like Covid19 have proteins, nucleic acids and may
borrow membranes (phospholipids) from the infected host, Covid19 needs all that to be
infectious.
As an alternative, if you can’t find any unverified scientific news, what you will write for
Part 3 instead, is 2 examples of how what you learned in these chapters helped you to
verify, question, support, or apply the information that you found in your daily life. Write 2
examples, one complete paragraph for each daily life application.
Part 4. Create 3 questions for each one of the 6 sections in Part1 (Intro, Atoms, and water
-Carbon Macromolecules - Cells - Membranes - Metabolism - Respiration/Fermentation) and
provide complete answers for them.
Different from the study guide of course. Here it is your opportunity to create your own
questions and show your ability to learn on your own and be curious.
