THE DYNAMIC ACTION OF

Homeobook.com ORGANON OF MEDICINE
• THE PRINCIPLES AND
ART OF CURE BY
HOMOEOPATHY

• H A ROBERTS
• We often speak of
Hahnemann as the first one
to note the similar action of
drugs and diseases.

• but HISTORY shows,

• ten centuries B C ,

• the ancient hindu system of

medicine was founded with
the similar theorem which
translated, reads almost
identical words to those of
Hahnemann used
• Aristotle , about 350 BC , gave the
dictum

• “If the simile of the remedy acts upon the

simile of the disease, the result of this
mutual action is neutralization,
annihilation of the original qualities. Viz.
of the pathopoiesis of the remedy and of
the pathogenesis of the organism, and
change into the contrary state viz health”
• Length of the time elapsed
since the recognition of the
law of similiars,

• the “question of dose” was

one which Hahnemann
solved
DYNAMIS AND HOMOEOPATHIC DOSAGE

• The question of dose rests upon the philosophy pertaining

to the the practice of homoeopathy
• Ignoring the law of dosage reveals a lack of concept of
the dynamic influence over matter.
• Dynamic force in life = manifestation of life
• Body and tissues are not life, they are the channels
through which life functions.
• The matter- indestructible
• Force is transmitted through
matter - indestructible

• matter may change its form -

but is always present
• force may change its
expression but no unit of
force is ever destroyed.
• force, or energy, or
dynamis is “the law of
nature”.

• may express its power in

different ways, but its
essence is breathed into
man at its creation which
made him a living soul.
• The expression of this law
may vary and find different
expressions ,

• as attraction, gravity,
electricity,chemical affinity,
dynamis or spiritual power
• All expressions are
combined under one head
and source of power-God
Evolution of homoeopathic therapeutics

• First step- drug proving

• Second step-discovery of
the law of similiars

• Third step-the principle of

potentisation
Drug proving

• After thorough painstaking intelligent, systematic study and

comparisons, after many long, tedious, self sacrificing
ordeals –
• Hahnemann was able to work out and announce to the
world-

• the existence of- an unsuspected universal LAW OF CURE

• was the first step - in evolution of new rational and
scientific system of medicinal practice
• law of similars?
Principle of potentisation

• Hahnemann - began experiments

• Application of proven drugs for the cure of sick (used full

strength of drug) basis of law of similars

• patients come with great aggravation

• found that dose was large.

• Experimented by diluting the drug on definite scale.

• Secured better results

• continued the process untill discovered the curative power

of drugs,
• but under peculiar and systemic reduction by regular
scale

• he found that many sustances supposed to be inert in

their crude states,

• become endowed with new and unsuspected activities

and powers.
• Hahnemann setting out simply to reduce the quantity of
his doses,

• discovered potentization

• an entirely new principle in posology,

• wonderful development in therapeutics
• This is the principle which gives life and power to the
system of medicine which hahnemann developed.

• With the discovery of potentization, or dynamization ,

Began the first practical tests of the newly –discovered
law of cure.
Action of crude drugs

• 3 grades of action
✓Mechanical

✓Chemical

✓Dynamic
Dynamic action of drugs

• What is dynamisation?
• demonstrated by provings in crude form

• produces little effects

• provings in 30 and above- causes complete provings

• dynamic action
• The full power of the drug in its dynamic action is brought
out in potency
(potentisation of inert substances like carbo veg, lyc, sil)

• Grosser material elements by their very crudity develop

no fine individualities in their provings

• Aph 269
The mode of action of drugs on cells

• biological response is produced by

• the chemical reaction between

• drug and cell constituents

• Freundlich (1926) states:

• "The simpler the conditions chosen and the smaller the
difficulty in securing access to the inner surface, the
quicker is the adsorption... In the case of well powdered
adsorbments the equilibrium is mostly reached in seconds
or minutes..."
• modern pharmocology recognizes that-

• 1.
• the reaction of amounts of drugs - minute -
• still it shows definite action on the cells.
• 2.

• the action is much more

rapid - incase of well
powdered substances (
trituration)
• 3.

• regardless of the quantity

of the drug used,
• the solution is activated to
a marked degree
• by vigorous stirring
• (succussion)
• This shows
• the observations of the action of infinitesimal amounts of
drug on the physiological basis, that

• the greater the trituration the more rapid the action,

• and that the influence of succussion also speeds the rate

of activity markedly
• potency - developed using centesimal scale

• is prepared by divided dosage

• and giving in each step - vigorous succussion

• process - contiued

• untill all the trace of quantity vanishes, beyond the

recognition of all possible physical tests

• in these higher potencies, the dynamic or potential

qualities survive
• since Hahnemann’s time,

• potentisation - has been greatly developed

• able to avoid the slightest aggravtion

• necessary accompaniment to the cure

• if aggravated,

• the remedy given

• - too low
• - repeated too often
• - or because the patient is susceptible to the powers
released by the potentisation
• slight aggravation of the natural disease appears after the
administartion of the remedy

• indication of the correct choice of the remedy

• Fincke says,

• “that dose is appropriate which will be proportionate to

the degree of susceptibility of the patient”

• closer the relationship between the disease symptoms

and the drug symptoms, the greater the susceptibility

• and higher the potency required

LAW OF LEAST ACTION

• Fincke explains

• the action and efficiency of infinitesimal dose

• by the law of Maupertius- French mathematician

• “the quantity of action necessary to effect any change in

nature is the least possible”
• according to this principle the decisive moment is always
a minimum, an infinitesimal
• applied to therapeutics,

• “the last possible or the highest potency is sufficient to

bring about reaction”
principle of similars

principle of dynamic use of drugs minimum dose

• the power developed by the process of dynamization

• can make solid substances

• useful in medicine

• how?
• dynamic energy which is latent in crude substances

• is liberated
• developed and modified

• used in medicine
• experience of practicable application of this power

• proves their value as the correct process in the

• cure of sick.
