Assertion-Reason based questions
25
In the following questions, a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by a statement of Reason (R).
Choose the correct answer out of the following choices.
(a) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).
(b) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).
(c) (A) is true but (R) is false.
(d) (A) is false but (R) is true.
9. Assertion (A) : All trigonometric functions have their inverses over their respective domains
Reason (R): The inverse of tan−1 x exists for some x ∈ R

10. Assertion: The value of sin tan (−√ 3 ) +cos
−1 −1
(−2√3 )] is 1.
Reason: tan−1 (−x ) =tan x and cos−1 (−x ) =¿ cos x ¿
Section –B

12. Check whether the function f : R− {−43 }→ R defined by f ( x )= 3 4x+x 4 is onto function or not.
Section –C
[This section comprises of 4 short answer type questions (SA) of 3 marks each]

14. Show that each of the relation R in the set A = {x ∈ Z : 0 ≤ x ≤ 12}, given by R = {(a, b): |a – b| is a
multiple of 4} is an equivalence relation. Find the equivalence class [1].
15. Check whether the relation R in R defined by R = {(a, b) : a ≤ b3} is reflexive, symmetric or transitive

Section –D
[This section comprises of 2 long answer type questions (LA) of 5 marks each]
17. N is the set of all natural numbers and R is the relation in N x N defined by (a,b) R (c,d) iff
ad(b+c)=bc(a+d) for (a, b), (c, d) in A x A. Prove that R is an equivalence relation
18. Let A = [ 2 3

Section –E
[This section comprises a case- study/passage-based questions of 4 marks each with sub parts. The case study
question has three sub parts (i), (ii), (iii) of marks 1,1,2 respectively.]
19. An organization conducted bike race under two different categories - Boys and Girls. There were 28
participants in all. Among all of them, finally three from category 1 and two from category 2 were
selected for the final race. Ravi forms two sets B and G with these participants for his college project.
Let B ={b1 ,b 2 , b3 }   and G={ g1 , g2 } where B represents the set of Boys selected and G the set of Girls
selected for the final race.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions :
(i) How many relations are possible from B to G ?
(ii) Among all the possible relations from B to G, how many functions can be formed from B to G ?
(iii)Let  R :B → B  be defined by R={( x , y ) : x∧ y are students of same gender } . Check if  R  is an
equivalence relation.
