Introduction

In this paper I will talk about a global issue that affects the world on a daily basis
such as pollution, where I will give a concept of it, the types of pollutants that intervene in
the environment, the causes and consequences of pollution and finally some tips What
can we do to reduce it? Pollution is the presence of any residue that causes harm not only
to the environment where we live, but also to the beings that inhabit it. In another aspect,
pollution is the incorporation into receiving bodies of solid, liquid or gaseous substances,
or mixtures of them, provided that they unfavorably alter the natural conditions of the
same, or that may affect the health, hygiene or well-being of the public.
Pollution
It is the presence of harmful components (whether chemical, physical or biological)
in the environment (natural and artificial environment), which are detrimental to the living
beings that inhabit it, including human beings. Environmental pollution is mainly caused by
causes derived from human activity, such as the emission into the atmosphere of
greenhouse gases or the excessive exploitation of natural resources.

Pollution is nothing more than an incentive that makes the climate crisis advance
without control. We refer to environmental pollution to the entry of harmful chemical
substances into a given environment. This phenomenon affects the balance of said
environment and makes it an unsafe environment.

The environment and its ecosystems directly suffer the harmful effects. And it is that
environmental pollution is a negative alternation of the natural state of living beings that
inhabit the planet. The causes of this type of pollution depend on several agents that vary
according to the ecosystem they affect.

Types of environmental pollution

There are different types of polluting agents that can be chemical substances, such
as pesticides, cyanide, herbicides..., urban waste, oil or ionizing radiation. However, one
thing they have in common is that they cause diseases and damage the environment at an
alarming rate. The rapid advance of climate change is nothing more than an accelerator
that feeds this global problem.

However, to know the causes of environmental pollution, we must first learn to

differentiate the different types of pollution based on their origin. These might be:
• Natural: caused by phenomena such as forest fires, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis or
earthquakes.
• Artificial: caused by human activity (polluting effects: industrial activity, chemical
products, etc.). As for the interruption of the natural cycles of the ecosystem, the
misuse of natural resources or the mismanagement of waste.
We can distinguish various types of pollution, among which the following stand out:
• Air pollution. It assumes the existence of solid, liquid or gas particles in the air that
harm living beings. One of the most frequently found pollutants in the air is carbon
monoxide.
• Water contamination. It occurs, above all, in rivers, lakes and the sea. It may be
due to plastics or wastewater discharges.
• Land pollution. Sometimes there are spills of chemicals that seep into the ground
and contaminate it. We can highlight oil or heavy metals, as well as herbicides and
pesticides.
• Pollution by Garbage. In large cities, a lot of waste is generated that usually ends
up in landfills. It can happen that the accumulated garbage is carried by the wind or
by water and contaminates the land or rivers.
• Thermal pollution. For example, an increase in the temperature of ocean water can
occur due to the greenhouse effect, which has consequences for the living beings
that inhabit that environment.
• Noise pollution. Anyone who has lived in a big city has heard the noise of cars,
construction sites, engines, planes: that is noise pollution.
• Light pollution. There is also a large amount of light pollution in large cities due to
the lights of buildings, cars or streetlights, which prevents seeing the stars.

Causes of environmental pollution

The anthropogenic sources that generate the greatest environmental pollution are
the following:
• Excessive logging.
• Industrial emissions and discharges into the atmosphere and hydrosphere.
• Extraction, processing and refining of fossil fuels (oil, coal and natural gas).
• Production of energy with fossil fuels and other non-renewable sources.
• Excessive use of automobiles and other means of transportation powered by
gasoline or diesel.
• Indiscriminate use of plastics and other materials derived from petroleum.
• Release of plastics and non-biodegradable objects in natural spaces.
Consequences of environmental pollution
One of the main consequences of environmental pollution is global warming, also
known as climate change, by which the temperature of the planet is increasing
progressively, both the atmospheric temperature and that of seas and oceans.

Environmental contamination poses a risk to the health of living beings that inhabit
contaminated ecosystems, including humans. In addition, indiscriminate logging, excessive
exploitation of natural resources and the emission of pollutants into the environment
(gases into the atmosphere, discharges into aquatic environments, solid waste) cause the
destruction of ecosystems. In this way, many species of animals and plants see how their
natural habitat is increasingly reduced, and may even cause their extinction.

What can you do to stop the different types of pollution?

Any of us can do a lot for the environment; it is only necessary to change habits and
be aware of how our actions influence nature. Here are some tips you can follow:
• Use public transport instead of the car to get around.
• Throw the waste in the appropriate container.
• Save water by showering instead of bathing.
• Use recyclable bags and avoid plastic bags.
• Turn off the lights in your house and electrical appliances when you are not using
them.
• Recycle furniture and other elements to give them a second life and not pollute.
• Buy organic products and those that come from sustainable crops.
• Avoid printing, and if you have to, use recycled paper.
• Insulate your home to prevent heat and cold leaks, and schedule heating and air
conditioning to reduce consumption.
• Use low consume bulbs.

Conclusion
At the end I can say the environment is the greatest work of our Lord, that is why we
must take care of it and preserve it for the good of ourselves and of all living beings that
inhabit our planet. Causes such as the destruction of the ozone layer, water pollution,
carbon dioxide, soil erosion, chlorinated hydrocarbons and other causes of pollution such
as the oil spill are destroying our planet, but the cause that produces the other causes is
us. ourselves.

In short, environmental pollution does nothing more than alter our natural balance.
On our side is to reduce its effects. And it is that among all of us we must join efforts to
walk towards the construction of a much more responsible society that manages to
commit the different generations with the care and respect of nature.
