Assignment 1

This document outlines the assignments for an Analog Electronics course. It includes 4 assignments: 1) Reviewing instrumentation amplifiers and explaining an application example. 2) Determining the output waveforms for a given circuit with triangular and square inputs. 3) Identifying why a differencing amplifier is non-ideal and suggesting changes. 4) Suggesting an operational amplifier configuration between two circuits and calculating component values. The assignments aim to strengthen understanding of instrumentation amplifiers, circuit analysis, and operational amplifier applications.

ASSIGNMENT 1

NMJ20303 ANALOGUE ELECTRONICS II

SEMESTER 2 2022/2023

Duedate: 1 june 2023

Submission: softcopy, submit in elearning platform

1. Review the basic theory of an instrumentation amplifier by providing its structural

configuration, working mechanism and related equation(s). Pick an application
example using an instrumentation amplifier in reported article/proceeding, and briefly
explain the application and improvement that have been done in the article. Attach the
first page of your chosen article (showing title, abstract) in your assignment
submission.

2. Given a circuit with configuration as shown in Figure 1.

a) Determine the output waveform relative to an input triangular wave with a 10 VPP
amplitude and a frequency of 250 Hz.
(6 Marks)

b) Determine the output waveform relative to an input square wave with a 2 VPP
amplitude and a frequency of 250 Hz.

3. A differencing amplifier with an inverting gain, Ainv of 2 has inputs of vi1 = 6 V and
vi2 = 2 V, and an output voltage, vo of 10 V. Prove that the amplifier is not in ideal
condition. Suggest changes needed and draw the circuit configuration to make it ideal
for a differencing purpose.

4. A block diagram of an application is shown in Figure 2. Suggest and draw an

appropriate operational amplifier configuration in between Circuit A and Circuit B to
make sure it can be operated efficiently. Show your calculations steps for all the
components value in the circuit configuration.
