MARKS
[12] 1. (a) Write the equation of the line perpendicular to the segment with the endpoints
(3, 4) and (−3, 1), and passing through the midpoint of the segment.
(b) Find the perimeter of the triangle with vertices at (2,2), (10, 2), and (10, −4).
(c) Write the equation of a circle passing through the point (2, −5) and
centered at the point (−3, −1). What is the exact value of its radius?
(Do not approximate.)
15
[9] 2. Consider the quadratic function f (x) = + 2x − 2x2 .
2
(a) Find the coordinates of the vertex, and indicate whether it corresponds
to the maximum or the minimum of f (x).
(b) Find the x− and y− intercepts.
(c) Sketch the graph of f (x) using the information found above.

[6] 3. Find all vertical and horizontal asymptotes, if any, of the function
(4 − 5x)(3 − x)
f (x) =
4x2 − 20x + 24
[14] 4. Find the exact solutions of the following equations (do not approximate):
(a) log2 (2x) + log2 (x + 3) = 3
(b) e2x = 10 + 3ex
(c) 25−x − 8 · 4x = 0

4x + 3
[9] 5. (a) Let f (x) = . Find the inverse function f −1 (x), and
5x − 2
(b) determine the domain and the range of f (x) and the domain of f −1 (x).
(c) Let f (x) = 3 − ex and g(x) = ln(x − 4). Find h = f ◦ g, and determine
the domain of h(x).

rad. Find the exact values of the x- and y-coordinates of P .
(b) Find the angular speed of rotation (in revolutions per minute) of the
wheels of a car moving with speed 72 km/hour if the diameter of its
wheels is 80 cm.
(c) Find the distance (in millions of miles) that Earth travels in its circular
orbit around the Sun in one week. Assume that one year is 365 days and
the radius of the orbit R = 93 million miles.
