TASK #2

1. List down 3 activities involved in each of the following:


 Measurement;
- Printable Measurement Activity – printable are fantastic way of
teaching measurement. Kids uses ruler to measure the picture on
these printable or they can use other items like paper clips or mini-
erasers.
- Volume measurement Flashcards – this measurement is a perfect way
for abstraction. After kids experience in measuring using real-life
items, it’s time to introduce measurement in a more abstract way.
- Big and Small Measurement Sort – creating a big and small
measurement sorting activity is a lot of fun for kids in their early years. It
teaches them how to classify things by size.
 Assessment;
1. Whole-class questioning 
- Whole-class questioning is a quick way for the teacher to gather
information on the level of understanding of the class a whole. 
- The key here is to ensure that children are given enough time to think
and formulate their response. 

2. Round the room questioning


- This method of assessing involves the teacher circulating round the room,
questioning individual or small groups of children. 

- The benefit of this is that it enables the teacher to strategically target


questions at specific children, quickly identifying and addressing any
misconceptions as they arise. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for
praise and encouragement. It is a helpful mid-lesson activity to carry out
when children are working independently or in small groups.

3. Class quizzes and polls


- Quizzes and polls are similar ways to assess pupils’ knowledge and
understanding. Polls collect choices or opinions, with no right or wrong
answers, whilst quizzes provide the opportunity for students to give right or
wrong answers. They can be carried out traditionally, using written
answers, or be technology-assisted, using computers, tablets or iPads. You
can use apps such as Padlet and Kahoot.

- Using quizzes and polls at the start of a lesson can be useful for
establishing pupils’ prior/existing knowledge. At the end of the lesson, they
can be used to determine what has been learnt and any gaps in
understanding.

 Evaluation
- Teacher’s observation at children’s work - Children’s participation in
activities is plenty of opportunities for teachers to capture the quality of
their questions, predictions, hypotheses, discussions, explanations,
drawings, writings... that provide essential information about their
progress in learning science. It also enables teachers to identify what
aspects are easier and what is more difficult for their students, in order
to have them into account when designing further learning activities

2. What standard assessment techniques are you utilizing in a classroom


setting?
- Performance assessment - This assessment is suitable for assessing the
achievement of competence requires learners perform certain tasks
such as laboratory practice, practice prayer, sports practice,
presentation, discussion, role play, playing musical instruments, singing,
reading poetry / elocution etc. The assessment methods are considered
more authentic than the written test because what is considered more
representative of the actual abilities of learners.
- Teacher-designed tasks and tests - As we know, teachers develop a
wide range of activities to introduce children to the science contents
(concepts, skills-processes and attitudes). These activities are active in
learning situations. They are also contexts in which assessment of the
progress of students can be carried out, as they involve observing,
predicting, asking questions, estimating, measuring, comparing,
analysing data and communicating in oral, pictorial, written, computer
format.
- Work samples and portfolios - The portfolio should contain samples of
work that reflect a wide range of tasks maintained in simple folders,
including also, for example, science copybooks, diaries, audio tapes and
computer disks.
