PA2 UserResearchAnalysis

This document outlines the requirements for Project Assignment 2 in the course CSC13112 – User Interface Design. The assignment requires students to: 1) Conduct user research through methods such as interviews and observations to understand users, their goals, and problems in relation to a chosen topic. 2) Analyze user research findings to identify user problems and generate potential solutions, creating an affinity diagram. 3) Propose an initial design concept to solve identified user problems, outlining the solution approach and format.

Project Assignment 2: User Research &

User Analysis

Due date: To be announced

Total points: 100 points
This is a teamwork assignment

Requirement
Discuss within your group and choose a topic in one of 3 themes (Reading /Book
/Sport) for your final project. After that, your team needs to do following steps:
• User Research: Use one or more of the following methods (interview,
observation, try it yourself) to understand your users & gather information
their context, environment, goals, tasks, capabilities, tools, constraints,
strengths, weaknesses, limitations and problems. In this phase, you have
to report your user research techniques, the process of user research (e.g.
interview or observation with how many users? How long did each
interview/observation session take? How did you record data from user
research sessions) understandings of users which your team gathered,
and Personas – fictional characters your team create based upon your
research to represent the different user types, work models (Flow model,
Sequence model, Artifact model, etc). Think about reporting insights,
findings from user research with images, or photos proving for observed
users’ interesting behaviors for make the report convincing.

• User Analysis: discuss and brainstorm within your group to identify user
problems, generate all potential solution ideas and creating an affinity
diagram. (using sticky notes or digital tools like Miro (www.miro.com ),
Figma or any tool of your choice).

• Proposal: Based on the user research results, provide initial concept of

your design solution to solve user problems.
o What problems/pain points of users does your team want to solve?
o What is the overall concept of your solution? (E.g., your solution is a
smartphone app, a tablet app, a smartwatch app, a webpage, a
kiosk computer or in which form? Conceptually what will your
solution do or interact with users to tackle the identified problems?
o Try to use knowledge/experience from the lecture and the guest
lecture from Lollypop to work on this exercise.

Grading Criteria
• English/Vietnamese writing: clear and easy to understand with few errors.
• Well formatted texts, diagrams, charts.
• Creative explorations on interesting usecase contexts and interesting
analysis/findings on user interactions
• Any act of copying over 70% will receive 0 points of this PA.
