Understanding Quadrilaterals-6

A square is a rectangle because: - A rectangle is a parallelogram with four right angles. - A square has four equal sides and four right angles, so it is a parallelogram with four right angles. - Therefore, a square is a special type of rectangle where all four sides are equal in length. So in summary, a square is a rectangle because it meets the definition of a rectangle (a parallelogram with four right angles) but with the added property that all four sides are equal.

UNDERSTANDING QUADRILATERALS
(PART-6)
(CLASS-VIII)
(AISN)

AISN/MATHS/CLASS-8
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED
DURING THE CLASS
1. Keep your Maths NCERT book, Geometry Notebook, Practice notebook, Pencil
box and other stationery items next to yourself so as to avoid movement during the
class.
2. It’s a humble request to keep your microphone on mute, camera on and speaker on
to hear class delivery with clarity. You will be prompted by the Teacher (Presenter)
when to unmute your microphone.
3. Keep your mobile on silent mode if it is kept near your laptop.
4. Do not ask questions during the progress of the lesson. Put your queries in the chat
box.
5. CW and HW questions to be done in the fair maths notebook.
6. Assignments will be shared in terms of handouts or worksheets on Amitranet.

SQUARE

Square is a parallelogram with all sides equal

& all 4 angles equal to 90°.
So,
• AB ∥ CD & AD ∥ BC
• AB = BC = CD = AD

• ∠A = ∠B = ∠C = ∠D=90º
Since it is a parallelogram,
it will have all its properties.

PROPERTIES OF SQUARE

In a Square

• All sides are equal.

• All angles are equal.

• Diagonals are equal and
bisect each other at 90°.

• Sum of adjacent angles is 180°.

Exercise- 3.4, Q 6
ABC is a right-angled triangle and O is the mid point of the side
opposite to the right angle. Explain why O is equidistant from
A, B and C. (The dotted lines are drawn additionally to help
you).
Solution:
Draw lines AD and DC
such that AD||BC, AB||DC
AD = BC, AB = DC
ABCD is a rectangle as opposite sides are equal and
parallel to each other and all the interior angles are of 90°.

In a rectangle, diagonals are of equal length and also

these bisect each other.

Hence, AO = OC = BO = OD

Thus, O is equidistant from A, B, and C.
