Activity no. 3 – Quality Assurance

Directions

1. Look for one Registered Medical Technologist or Chief Medical Technologist. Please make
an appointment with them and ask their permission to conduct an interview.
2. Make a 15 to 20-minute video presentation (in mp4 format) of your interview with your
chosen medical technologist.
3. The video presentation should include the whole interview or the clip of their answer. The
topic of your discussion is quality assurance. You will use the following as your guide
questions.
a. In your point of view as a medical technologist, how do you see the relevance of
quality assurance in laboratory medicine?
b. What is the most challenging part of controlling laboratory machines? And how do
you cover those challenges?
c. If in case the result of your QC is not within an acceptable range, how do you
troubleshoot your results/machine?
d. Of all NEQAS samples, which is the most challenging sample to test? Why?
4. The interview may be held online or face-to-face, depending on the availability of your
interviewee.
5. Make sure that all of you have a photo together with your interviewee. At least three group
members will appear in the video presentation, and the rest may do the editing and likes.
6. You have two weeks to work on this output.
7. As an individual work, each student should appear at the end of the video stating her short
reflection regarding the importance of quality control in attaining reliable and accurate
results. Each student can have at least 1-2 minutes of video sharing.
8. Your professor will give 80% of your grade, while the remaining 20% will be coming from
your peers.
