Eng. Farah. Spring 2022-2023design and Implementation of Decentralized VPN Using Blockchain

This project aims to design and implement a decentralized VPN using blockchain technology. A decentralized VPN would allow users to connect directly in a peer-to-peer network with strong encryption. Blockchain would provide decentralized and tamper-proof management of user identities and access rights. The design requirements include the VPN being decentralized without a central server, using encryption for security, being compatible across operating systems and devices, having a user-friendly interface, supporting simultaneous connections, and authenticating users without a central authority. The project will follow ISO/IEC and NIST security standards and produce documentation, a video, and portfolio as deliverables. Students should have strong networking and Linux skills.

4 Design to be Achieved The project aims to design and implement a decentralized VPN (Virtual Private
Network) using blockchain technology. The VPN will allow users to connect to
each other directly using a P2P (peer-to-peer) network and establish secure
communication channels with strong encryption algorithms. The use of
blockchain technology will provide a decentralized and tamper-resistant way to
manage user identities and access rights. The decentralized VPN will provide
high levels of security, privacy, and anonymity while also offering a scalable and
fault-tolerant architecture.
5 Design Requirements The design shall achieve the following requirements:
1- The VPN shall be designed as a decentralized system, utilizing peer-to-
peer (P2P) technology to allow users to connect directly to each other
without a central server.

2- The Design shall use strong encryption algorithms, such as AES or

RSA, to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the data transmitted
over the network.

3- The Design shall support a wide range of operating systems and devices
to ensure compatibility with various client devices.

4- The Design shall have a user-friendly interface and be easy to set up and
configure.

5- The Design shall support the ability to connect to multiple nodes

simultaneously to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.

6- The Design shall support a mechanism for users to authenticate and

authorize each other without relying on a central authority.

7- The Design shall be scalable to accommodate a large number of users

and nodes.
