Learning outcomes:

The students are expected to be able to

1. understand the relationship between

stereotypes, prejudice, and
discrimination.
2. be aware of how stereotypes,
prejudice, and discrimination affect
decision-making processes.
WHO IS THE RIGHT ONE?

After finish this class students will be able to....

1.
A stereotype is
an assumption.
A stereotype means assuming that a group
of people who share some characteristics
also share specific attributes. In other
words, when someone believes something
about you because of one part of your
identity.

Stereotypes are often: negatively impactful,

overly simplistic, dangerous, and unfair.
Prejudice is an
attitude.
Prejudice is when someone has a feeling
(usually negative) about a person or group
based on a stereotype. The belief is usually
based on a person’s membership (or
assumed membership) in a certain group.

Prejudice also divides people based on

stereotypes. For example, Ableism,
Cissexism, Homophobia, Racism, Sexism,
and Xenophobia.
Discrimination
is an action.
Discrimination is when someone acts on their
prejudiced beliefs which is negative behaviour
towards member of an out group. An out
group is a group that we do not belong to or
one that we view as fundamentally different
from us. Examples of discrimination include:

• a manager promoting a cisgender

employee over a transgender employee
whose performance is stronger.

• a health-care provider refusing to

treat/diagnose a patient who is part of a
particular racial/ethnic group.
Let’s share!
Have you ever been involved in a
situation where people prejudiced and
discriminated against you or others?
