DIVISION ENHANCED LEARNING PLAN

SCIENCE 5

Quarter: First Quarter

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard/ Focus The learners demonstrate understanding of ways
of sorting materials and describing them as solid,
liquid or gas based on observable properties.
B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to group common
objects found at home and in school according to
solids, liquids and gas.
C. Competencies/ Objective: 1. Describe changes in materials based on the
effect of temperature:
a. Solid to liquid,
b. Liquid to solid,
c. Liquid to gas,
d. Solid to gas (S3MT-Ih-j-4).
2. Differentiate solid to liquid
3. Identify the process of changing materials
from solid to liquid?
II. TOPIC/ SUBJECT MATTER Changes in Materials from Solid to Liquid
III. LEARNING RESOURCES:
A. Textbook SCIENCE 3 Learners Material
B. Other Reference Division ALMs, DepEd LRMDS Modules
Duration and Time Week 5 (Day 1 – 5)
IV. LEARNING DEVELOPMENT /
PROCEDURE
A. Motivation – Establishing a Motive Questions:
purpose for the lesson 1. Do you drink cold juice?
2. What do put on your juice to make it cold?
3. What happen to the ice cubes when it is put
in your juice?
B. Review of the previous Let the learners answer the activity 1 on the ALMs
lesson/s or presenting the Quarter 1 – Week 5.
new lesson)
Ask:
1. What are the changes in materials when it is
hot or cold?
2. How can a solid changed to liquid?
3. What do you call the process of changing
solid to liquid?

Say: We will find out the answer to these questions

through our discussion.

C. Analysis (Presenting DISCUSSION: SOLID TO LIQUID

examples/ instances of the
new lesson) Materials can be changed by the effect of
temperature change. At low temperature, most
materials are solid; by increasing the temperature,
it can become liquid; at higher temperature, it can
become gas.

The process in which a solid change to a

liquid is called melting. There is a special
temperature for every substance called the melting
point. The melting point is the temperature at
which a solid change to a liquid. When a solid
reaches the temperature of its melting point, it
can become a liquid.

An example of this is the photo below.

The chocolate bar when heated goes through the
process of melting and turns into a melted
chocolate. Ice cubes also when melted become
water.

D. Discussing new concepts and Activity 1 – Let the learners answer the Activity on
practicing new Skills (Sub- their ALMS Quarter 1 Week 5 (Activity 2)
activity No. 1)
Remember:
Always keep in mind that materials can be
changed by the effect of temperature changes. The
process by which a solid becomes liquid is called
melting.
E. Abstraction (Making 1. What happen to the butter when it is
generalizations about the heated?
lesson)
2. What is the property of butter before it was
melted? When it is melted?

3. What is the process of changing materials

from solid to liquid?

F. Application: Developing Let the learner answer the Activities (4a and 4b) on
Mastery their ALMs on the board
G. Valuing Realizing that any materials undergo changes.
H. Evaluation Write the letter of the correct answer in your
notebook.

1. What do you call the process of changing solid

to liquid?
a. evaporation c. melting
b. sublimation d. freezing

2. Ice is an example of water. What state of matter

is it?
a. gas c. liquid
b. solid d. cold

3. When chocolate bar melts, it changes from

___________.
a. solid to gas c. liquid to gas
b. liquid to solid d. solid to liquid

4. Elsa put ice cubes inside a glass. The following

day, the ice cubes turned to water. What changes
is shown when ice cubes become water?
a. The solid ice cubes changed to gas.
b. The solid ice cubes changed to liquid.
c. The solid ice cubes remained solid.
d. None of the above.

5. What is needed for a solid to become a liquid? a.

heat c. gas
b. darkness d. light

*You may use the activity on the ALMS – Activity 5.

I. Assignment/Agreement Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE
if not. Do this in your notebook.

______________1. When ice is cooled, it melts.

______________2. Sugar becomes liquid when
heated.
_____________3. Crayon will still be solid when
heated.
______________4. Candles will melt when lighted.
______________5. When you hold an ice cube, it will
melt in your hands.

time/re-teaching)

VI. REFLECTION (what went well

and what parts were weak)
