Introduction

This addendum provides detailed guidance on performing Lab 5: Using vSphere Web
Client of the VMware vSphere 6.0: Install, Configure, Manage course, using a NETLAB+
system.

Objective: Navigate and customize the vSphere Web Client

In this lab, you will be using the vclient virtual machine to complete your objectives.
You will be performing the following tasks:

1. Navigate the vSphere web client


2. Pin and unpin panes
3. Hide the Getting Started tabs

1 Navigate the vSphere Web Client

1. Click on the vclient graphic on the topology page.


2. Log into the vclient VM as vclient using the password vmware123.
3. Open the Chrome web browser by clicking on the icon at the bottom corner of
the window.

4. Click Advanced, followed by clicking on Proceed to 172.16.1.1 on the warning


page.

If you experience the “vSphere Client web server is initializing” message, please
wait an additional 2-3 minutes and refresh the page to continue.

You may ignore the “browser-OS combination” warning message presented on


the VMware vCenter Single Sign-On page and continue moving forward with the
lab.

5. Type admin in the Username field.


6. Type vmware in the Password field.
7. Click the Login button.
8. In the Main Workspace pane, make sure you are viewing the Home tab.

9. Click on the Hosts and Clusters icon.

10. In the Inventory pane, click the arrow next to the Training Datacenter entry to
expand the list and then do the same for the esxi-1 entry. After expanding the
inventory, you should be able to see your vCenter Server (172.16.1.1), your
Training Datacenter, Lab Cluster, your esxi-1 and esxi-2 hosts along with their
associated virtual machines.

11. From the Object Navigator pane, select Lab Cluster.

12. Navigate quickly to the top-level object by clicking the quick navigation menu
button and selecting the vCenter 172.16.1.1.

13. In the Search dialog box, type Local-51 and then click the Local-51 hyperlink in
the search results.

14. Click on the Summary tab.

Information regarding the local datastore details is displayed here.

15. When you finish looking through the datastore information, hover your mouse
over the Home button located at the top of the page and click on Home option
from the root menu.

2 Pin and Unpin Panes

In this task, you explore some customization settings for the VMware vSphere Web
Client.

1. In the Object Navigator pane, click on Hosts and Clusters.

2. In the Object Navigator pane, click on 172.16.1.1.


3. In the Main Workspace area, click on the Related Objects tab, followed by the
Hosts button and then click on your esxi-1 host.

4. In the Object Navigator pane, click the unpin icon.

5. Click in the main workspace area.

6. What happens to the Object Navigator pane? ____________________________


7. Move your mouse cursor over the object navigator pane and click on the
Navigator sidebar.
8. What happens to the Object Navigator pane? ____________________________
9. Click on the Navigator tab followed by clicking the pin icon to re-pin the window.

10. In the bottom-right corner of the VMware vSphere Web Client is the Alarms
window. Click on the unpin icon.

11. Notice the Alarms window is now unpinned to the bottom of the window. To re-
pin the Alarms window, click on the Alarms tab followed by clicking the pin icon.
(Do not worry about any alarms that show up in this window at this point.)

12. You will notice that when re-pinning the Alarms window, it will pin itself
horizontally on the bottom of the window. To move it back to the Alarms and
Tasks panel, click and hold the top part of the Alarms window and drag it to the
right side of the screen. Release the mouse click when dragged to the desired
location.

3 Hide the Getting Started Tabs

In this task, you will hide the Getting Started Tabs.

1. Focus on the title bar, hover you mouse over the Home button and click on the
Home menu option.

2. Click on the Help drop-down menu in the title bar and click Hide All Getting
Started Pages.

3. Click on the Hosts and Clusters icon under the Object Navigator pane and record
the first tab you see. ________________________________________________

When selecting Hosts and Clusters and the main workspace area appears as a
whitespace, click the Refresh button located in the title bar.

4. Click on the Help drop-down menu in the title bar and click Show All Getting
Started Pages.
5. Record the first tab you see in the main workspace area.

6. Close the vclient PC viewer to complete the lab.
