What is Business?
Business refers to an occupation in which people
regularly engage in activities related to sale and
purchase/production of goods and services with a view of
earning profits.

ORGANIZATIONS
1) SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP-
Sole proprietorship refers to a form of business organization which is owned, managed and controlled by an individual who
is the recipient of all profits and bearer of all risks.
2) PARTNERSHIP-
Partnership is defined as an association of two or more persons who agree to carry on a business together and share the
profits as well as bear risks collectively.
3) CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES-
A Cooperative society is a voluntary association of persons who get together to protect their economic interests.
4) JOINT HINDU FAMILY BUSINESS-
Joint Hindu family business is a business owned and carried on by the members of a Hindu undivided family, which is
governed by the Hindu law.
5)JOINT STOCK COMPANY-
A company may be defined as an artificial person, existing only in the eyes of the law with perpetual succession and
having a separate legal identity. Companies can be of 2 types– private and public.

 The format of co-op society and company are given in act ,whereas sole
proprietorship and partnership firms have Trading and P/L a/c.
 HUF has co-parcener`s share in capital.
 Owner`s equity section for company are often labelled as shareholders` equity.
 The Equity portion is presented differently in partnership firm and company.
 There are different formulas for calculating the financial position of the firm for
different forms of organisations.
