This source is about a study of kindergarten children in Quebec born in 1980. They accessed
their parent's background like tax, returns, family and personal backgrounds, and their
characteristics. When these children turned 22 years old, they were asked questions pertaining to
child abuse including physical and sexual and their responses were turned into statistics. This
source will be extremely helpful for my paper because of the statistics provided. Another thing
that will be useful is that test subjects were evaluated as children and then as adults to see how
their childhood affected them later on down the road.

This journal discusses the stereotype that only girls get abused as children. It shows statistics
about boy’s verses girl being abused. These statistics include sexual abuse, physical abuse, and
neglect. This can help me because when you hear of a sexually abused child you automatically
tend to think it was a little girl. This is a common bias many people have but the public does not
realize the underage male count of sexual abuse is almost 50/50 with that of underage women.
This journal gives me a chance to discuss this to put the record straight and hopefully eliminate
some bias in others.

This source is a true account of a child being beaten. This is a graphic depiction of what it is
really like for a child while being abused. This would be a reliable source because of the graphic
details that will make anyone stop and think how cruel it is to punish kids like this. Spanking a
child can leave live long scars mentally. This girl was left with trauma and lifelong suffering
from PTSD and suicidal tendencies. Every parent needs to read this article when deciding if they
should spank their child and choose based on if they want to leave their child with lifelong
trauma and pain and a possibility of losing their child to suicide because of their actions. At the
beginning of this article and at the end there are statistics from the U.S. Department of Health &
Human Services from 2018 that will be helpful for my research.

This source is about a grown woman telling us about her account as a child in an USA federal
government run Native American boarding camp. These camps are similar to concentration
camps in WW2, but less death and America was Hitler in this since. The children were beaten,
sexually abused, yelled at, and verbally abused for not speaking English and for being Native
American to the point where children were dying from being the beatings and abuse. This source
is important to my research as it tells us a story of America's past and the part the U.S plays in
child abuse. There are many firsthand accounts in this article I can quote and use in a paper. I can
use this article for citations when I talk about the history of child abuse.

This source explains how CPS works. This source will be helpful from all the statistics it has to
offer. The source explained neglect, medical neglect, and physical abuse. This source got their
information from the US National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System from annual Child
Maltreatment reports published by the US Department of Health and Human Services, so it is
reliable. A unique thing about this source is it includes a lesser-known abuse called medical
neglect. The statistics that have to do with medical abuse will be useful to help explain this
lesser-known abuse in my paper.

This source is one of my favorites because it follows a real CPS worker to a real job. The news
station has cameras and microphones recording exactly what the family had to say and the
questions the CSP worker asked. I also found interesting that the station said before showing the
video that they contacted CPS for an interview before getting one and they were denied. I can
use this video as a source in my paper and quote things the CPS worker said in response to
questions. I can also use the case about the child's death in my paper. It will take additional
research and another source, but I can potentially get several fantastic citations for my paper.

www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0145213422001971.
This source discusses the effects of physical and emotional abuse has on a child. It also talks
about the negative side effects abuse has on children. Depression has direct links to child abuse.
This source in helpful as it has statistics from the National Mental Health Development in China.
This source will let me compare child abuse in different countries to the U.S. There is also
information about Diathesis-Stress Theories of Depression (Monroe & Simons, 1991) and how
that has to do with the effects of child abuse.

Threatening Complex Chronic Conditions.” Child Abuse & Neglect, 17 May 2023,

This source explains medical neglect as being where a child suffers due to failure from the child's
caretakers not addressing the child's needs. I learned that medical neglect could include parents
of a child not taking a sick child to the hospital and that child ends up dying. Another example
can be the parent refuses to get their child vaccinated and they die from the illness they refused
to get them vaccinated from. This source gives valuable information including five things needed
for a case to be labeled medical neglect. The list I can use in my paragraph about detection and
prevention. When I am in the section in my paper about child abuse in children with disabilities I
can include that children with medical disabilities are prone to medical neglect because of their
conditions. Also, this source uses statistics from the CPS in the U.S. from U.S Department of
Health and Human Services from 2021 about maltreatment-related child deaths.

Children with disabilities are at a greater risk of abuse because of their debilitating conditions.
Most children with disabilities who were severely abused were this way because their disabilities
prevented them from defending themselves. Children with disabilities have a higher chance of
being victims of abuse because of their disabilities than normal children. There are statistics from
U.S. Children's Bureau with numbers on abuse and neglect in children. This will help my paper
in the statistics part when I am talking about disabilities and what they have to do with abuse. As
I scroll down I found more CPS statistics about maltreatment of children who had been placed in
CPS with disabilities this will be helpful when I need evidence and citations at the part of my
paper about disabilities and child abuse.

This source talked about the lifelong consequences of child abuse. It talks about how the UN
Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes children's freedom from violence as a human
right. The article says that most child abuse comes from families in the middle to low-income
class. This sources says the lack of money and support leads to stress and I thought it made sense
that the most abuse would come from those low income families as they sometimes cannot get
the child the help they need. This article lists tons of helpful sources I can use that are credible. I
can use this article as a citation when explaining the international side of child abuse.
