To do well at school, college or university you usually need to do well in exams.


“All students hate exams” may be a generalization, but it is fairly true one.
Certainly, all of the students I’ve known disliked doing exams, None of them
thought that the exam system was fair; to do well in a exam you simply had to be
able to predict the questions which would be asked, This was the case as regards
tow students in my class at college. Both of them were exceptionally bright, but in
the final year “exam” neither of them got an A grade. In fact, they both got Cs. The

both assumed that the same questions wouldn’t come up again, and hadn’t prepared
for them.

Today computers come in all shapes and sizes. There were still big computers for
companies or universities. There are other special computers for factories. These large

1. Identify the purpose of the reading test - to assess comprehension, vocabulary,
grammar, reading for main idea & detailed information, inference and summarization
2. Determine the level of difficulty - the reading test should be appropriate for 10th-
grade students.
3. Select the appropriate reading materials - choose reading passages that is
appropriate for 10th graders and relates to their interests or curriculum (excerpts from
articles and books).
4. Design the test format - make sure that the form is clear and easy to follow. Cloze test,
reading comprehension and matching headings are common formats. Decide on the
number of questions and pages in the test.
5. Set the test timing - ensure that students have sufficient time to read the passages and
answer the questions.
6. Create the test instructions - the instructions should be clear and concise. Explain
what the students are required to do and how they will be assessed.
7. Develop the scoring scheme - establish a clear and fair scoring system that reflects the
test objectives.
8. Pretest the reading test - before administering the test, pretest it to ensure that the
questions are appropriate, and the vocabulary and grammar in the passages are clear (In
Cloze-Test Exercise- make sure the blanks are evenly spaced and not too close together
and avoid using difficult vocabulary or complex sentence structures that could confuse the
students).
