2 PARTS OF TOPIC SENTENCE

STEPS FOR LOCATING THE TOPIC


SENTENCE

1. Read the entire paragraph


2. Read the 1st sentence.
3. Read the last sentence, if the 1st
did not contain the topic sentence.
4. If either the 1st or last has the
topic sentence, then it is
identi ed,
5. If neither of them reveals the topic
sentence, assess each sentence in
the middle of the paragraph.
6. Once the topic sentence is located,
look for the general phrase that
states the main idea.

Types of main idea:


1. Direct - this main idea is directly stated in the paragraph.

2. Indirect/Implied - this main idea is not directly stated in the


paragraph. Therefore, it is the reader's own interpretation as to
what he writer wants to express.

Do you wear glasses? Make sure your glasses t well. The earpieces
should be at eye level. Don’t try to adjust the earpieces yourself. Take
your glasses for adjustments to the place you bought them. Keep your
glasses in a case when you’re not wearing them. This will prevent
scratches. Keep the lenses clean. A soft cloth is best for cleaning.
