V810 System Overview

Vitrox V810 Automated X-ray Inspection System inspects the

solder joints on printed circuit board assemblies using x-ray and
digital reconstruction.

It identifies inadequate solder joints and misplaced or missing

components.

V810 Digital Reconstruction

• Simple explanation of how it works:

Acquire multiple 2D
projection images Top Side Bottom Side
Step 1: Select
image

Utilize parallax to
separate Top side
from Bottom side of
PCB.

Resulting
Combined Image:
Need multiple 1+2+3
Image
images to
separate all top
side features
from bottom side.
V810 Digital Reconstruction

• Uses industry standard techniques for

oblique image reconstruction.
• Allows for arbitrary number of in focus
planes from a single acquisition
sequence.
• V810 system uses multiple shift and
combine methodologies
 Different methods for defect image
optimization: shift+average,
shift+ordered statistics, etc
 Multiple standard statistical noise
reduction techniques, such as,
averaging, double correlated
sampling, etc.

V810 System Overview – Power Up

1. Switch on the Main Power on the PDU.

2. Switch on the Main Controller and each
IRP.
3. Switch on the Switched Power on the
PDU.
1 3 4. Switch on the power on the SSCA.

4

5. Switch on the X-ray Enable on the

operator console.
6. Log into the 7 Operating System.
7. Launch and Log Into the V810 Software if
it does not start automatically.
V810 System Overview – Start Up

• You can select “Start Up” from the menu

but don’t need to. System will
automatically run startup when it needs
to.
• Warm Start - If it has been less than 2
hours since the last proper shutdown, the
high voltage for the x-rays will ramp up
immediately.
• Cold Start - If it’s been more than two
hours, the high voltage will ramp up
slightly slower (about 1 minute).
V810 System Overview – Power Down

1. Unload any panels from the system.

2. Select “Shut Down” form the “Actions”
menu. If logged in as Service, select
“Turn off Current and Voltage” on the X-
ray Source Tab in the Subsystem Status
& Control task.
V810 System Overview – Power Down

3. Switch off the power on the SSCA.

4. Switch off the switched power on the

PDU.

5. Exit the V810 Software.

6. Shutdown the XP Operating System.

7. Switch off each of the four IRPs (the

main controller switches off
automatically).

8. Switch off the main power on the PDU.

V810 System Overview – Software
– hardware.calib file:
• Binary file that contains all the adjustment values from C, D, & A
• Automatically updated by C, D, & A

– hardware.config file:
• Text file that contains system hardware information such as
– System serial number (last four digits)
– Panel Handling Subsystem settings
– Panel Positioning Subsystem settings
– Interlock Board revision
– X-ray Tube parameters
• The machine-specific information is maintained during software re-
install
• Special consideration for editing this file
V810 System Overview – Software
– software.config file:
• Text file that contains system software information such as
– Customer Information
– Panel Serial Number Handling
– Results Processing
– Barcode Reader Settings
– Panel Handling Options
– SMEMA Settings
– C, D, & A Configuration
• Don’t edit this file; use the System Configuration Environment
• The system Configuration Settings are carried forward to the new
file at software re-install

# copy of these three files is included in the “other” section.

V810 System Overview – Software
– The “config\hardware.override.config” file contains unique, per-machine
values

– At startup, if a “config\firstRunSetupAfterInstallComplete” does NOT exist:

• the “config.prev\hardware.override.config” file is copied over the
“config\harrdware.overide.config” file and
• the values in the config/hardware.config file are updated with those
from the “config\hardware.override.config” file and
• a new “config\firstRunSetupAfterInstallComplete” is generated.
V810 System Overview – Software
– So if you change hardware that affects the values in the override file (the
x-ray tube is the only case we have for now), you need to:
• edit the “config.prev\hardware.override.config” file with the values for
the new hardware and
• delete the “config\firstRunSetupAfterInstallComplete” file and
• run startup
– Or, edit these three files with the values for the new hardware:
• Config.prev/hardware.override.config
• Config/hardware.override.config
• Config/hardware.config
