This section should sum up to the prospective employer, why you are right for the job. Personal
statement should be kept brief (no more than 120 words) and avoid writing in bullet points, the text
must flow professionally in cohesive sentences. This section can be time-consuming; but we do
recommend spending time to ensure it highlights your unique selling points. You should answer
three questions. What are you currently doing? What skills do you have that are relevant to the job

Education:
TIP: Education should always be written in reverse chronological order. As always, keep this part
concise and include the following:
1. The dates that you attended your school, college and university.
2. Degree and grade obtained (Distinction= 75% above, Merit = 60-75%, Pass 45-60%)
3. A-levels or other technical qualifications gained in Sixth form or college
4. GCSEs and any Other qualifications such as professional qualifications
5. If relevant, include your project or dissertation title with a short summary.

Work Experience
TIP: Relevant work experience to the field/sector. This section should include:

Experience should be listed in reverse chronological order. If you don't have much in the way of
work experience, make sure you include any internships, summer placements or voluntary work you
may have done.

This section is formatted exactly the same as work experience but will include non-
technical positions. So if you have any part time experience, freelance or voluntary roles
that are not from your field of interest. This will show an employer that you have still gained
skills.
Companies want to get a feel of your personality as an individual, so, let your personality shine
through. However, it is equally important to ensure the interests and hobbies you list are
appropriate. If you enjoy a certain sport or interest, back it up with how you play for a team. If you
are a member of any institutes or societies, include it in this section.
