Opposite numbers are two numbers whose sum is zero. The opposite of a number is called its additive inverse. Absolute value is the distance a number is away from zero. When adding two negative numbers, the result will be negative, as negatives plus negatives equals a larger negative number. When adding one positive and one negative number, if the positive number is larger the result will be positive, and if the negative number is larger the result will be negative. Subtraction can be thought of as adding the opposite. Multiplying a positive by a negative or a negative by a positive results in a negative number, and multiplying two negative numbers results in a positive number.

1) Start at ________ 1) Start at ________

2) Count to ________ = _______ 2). Count to ________ = _______

3) Give ________ sign = _______ 3) Give ________ sign = _______

c. - 45 + 105 d. - 36 + 11

1) Start at ________ 1) Start at ________

2) Count to ________ = _______ 2) Count to ________ = _______

3) Give ________ sign = _______ 3) Give ________ sign = _______

e. - 76 + 34 = f. - 88 + 24 =
