NARRATIVE REPORT IN READING

One of the four main language skills alongside listening, speaking, and writing is
reading. It is the process of looking at the written symbols and letters, recognizing their
sounds and understanding their meaning when put in together. This also teaches us new
words, widens our vocabulary to strengthen language and sharpens sentence structure.
Reading is essential to everyone, especially to learners. Its main objective is to
support their cognitive development and improve language skills that will help them to be
prepared for academic success. This is also one way to increase learners’ concentration and
discipline, improve imagination, and creativity, and cultivate a lifelong love for reading.
These are the reasons why students are being encouraged to learn how to read.
The conduct of different activities and interventions are being done to meet the
aforementioned objectives. One of these is the administration of Project GREAT (Graders
Reading Assessment and Enhancement Tool). In here, students are being categorized as
Anchoring, Developing, and Emerging depending on their reading ability/skills. Their
knowledge in Alphabet, Phonics and Vocabulary is being assessed with the use of certain
reading materials.
Teachers as well prepare lots of instructional materials to help students learn how to
read. There are different story books which is used to test learner’s comprehension, word
cards that contains different sight words and other printed reading materials starting from the
very basic of words to the most complex. These can all be seen in the reading corner of every
classroom.
Remedial class is also conducted. In here, learners who really struggle with reading
are given more attention to improve their skills. Different activities like reading habit every
vacant hours, peer to peer reading or the brotherhood/sisterhood is also implemented. Peer to
peer reading is a style of reading wherein a student teaches another student to read. Flashing
of word cards is also done alternatively with flashcards or number cards. This is done to test

Family Activity” was implemented. This is one way to make family bond stronger and better.
Indeed, reading really takes up a big part of our lives. Numerous studies have shown
that students who are exposed to reading are more likely to do well in school. That is why as
much as possible, we make sure that we can spare some of our busy time and schedule for
reading.
