Q1.

Solve using cross multiplication (6)

(i) 5x + 4y + 14 = 0
3x = -10 - 4y

(ii) 0.4x - 1.5y = 6.5

0.3x + 0.2y = 0.9

(iii) √2x - √3y = 0

√5x + √2y = 0

Q2. Solve the linear equations (8)

(i) 3/x + 2/y = 10
9/x - 7/y = 10.5

(ii) 4x + 6/y = 15 and 3x - 4/y = 7. Hence find a

if y = ax - 2

(iii)

(iv) 103x + 51y = 617

97x + 49y = 583
Q3. Solve the Word Problems by linear equations. (8)

(i) The sum of two numbers exceeds thrice the

smaller by 2. If the difference between them is 19,
find the numbers.

(ii) Find the fraction which becomes ½ when its

numerator is increased by 6 and is equal to ⅓ when
its denominator is increased by 7

(iii) The sum of digits of a two digit number is 7.

If the digits are reversed, the new number increases
by 3, equals 4 times the original number. Find the
original number

(iv) Father’s present age is twice the sum of the

ages of his two children. After 12 years, his age is
the same as the sum of the ages of his two children.
Find the present age of the father.

Q4 FACTORISE

(i) 7a3 + 56b3

(ii) 2a3 + 16b3 - 3a - 6b

(iii) 2x2 + 3x - 90

(iv) (x2 - 3x)2 - 8(x2-3x) - 20
