Steps Required after Replacing the Main PCB HLL5000D, HLL5100DN, HLL5200DW(T), HLL6200DW(T), HLL6250DW
After the main PCB has been replaced, the steps below ARE REQUIRED to ensure that the machine will function properly.
REQUIREMENTS: Maintenance USB Printer Driver (Latest Version) Service Setting Tool (BRUSBSN.EXE) (Latest Version), Memory Access Tool, Shipping Tool Computer running Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 10 USB Cable
PROCEDURE: 1. Verify and note Main firmware version. Machine Info. > Version > Main Version
2. Enter Maintenance Mode by pressing OK, Go, ▲, ▲, ▲, ▲.
3. Set the Country Code
a. While in Maintenance Mode, press ▼ until “MAINTENANCE 74” is displayed on the LCD and then press OK. b. Press ▲ or ▼ to select the first digit of the appropriate code from the table below and then press OK. c. Press ▲ or ▼ to select the second digit of the appropriate code from the table below and then press OK. d. Press ▲ or ▼ to select the last two digits of the appropriate code from the table below and then press OK. e. Press Go to set the new Country Code.
a. While in Maintenance Mode, press ▲ until 01 appears. Then press OK.

b. The LCD will show “PARAMETER INIT” and then return to the initial state of maintenance mode 5. Connect the USB cable to the Brother machine and the computer.
6. If the Brother Maintenance USB Printer Driver is not already installed on the computer, download the installation file from http://support.brother-usa.com/ and follow the instructions included in the file. The file can be found under Technical Downloads for any of the models listed in this service update.
7. Activate Memory Writing.
a. Verify that the Brother Maintenance USB Printer is set as default. If not, set as default printer. b. Run the "Memory AccessTool.exe" file. A window will appear as show in Fig 1. c. Enter Y on your computer. Memory Writing is activated.

NOTE: Setting the Serial Number and entering the adjusted value of the laser unit are not available until activating memory writing. If unable to set the serial number and the adjusted value of the laser, perform STEP 6 again.
8. Run the file BrUsbsn.exe to update the serial number and adjusted value of the laser unit. Enter/select the appropriate data for each section as defined below: a. Select 2 Mono-Laser. b. Select 2015_Printer. It is not necessary to click a specific model. c. Select the port assigned to the Brother Maintenance USB Printer driver. d. Enter the full 15-character serial number of the machine. (Alternate Method below) e. Enter the five digits to the left of the letter at the end of the laser unit serial number. Refer to Fig. 3 for the location of the laser unit serial number label. f. Click the OK button.

9. Reset to Factory Shipping State.
a. Verify that the Brother Maintenance USB Printer is set as default. If not, set as default printer. b. Run the "ShippingTool.exe" file. This sets the machine to factory shipping state.
10. Exit Maintenance Mode and unplug the power. Wait 5 seconds and power back on.
11. Verify the firmware version noted in Step 1 is the latest version. If the latest version, there is no need to install the firmware. If it is not the latest version, download and install the firmware from the technical downloads section for the model being repaired. Once the firmware has been updated/ installed enter Maintenance Mode. Press ▲ until 01 appears. Then press OK. this will initialize the firmware.
NOTE: Install the sub firmware, then the main firmware in this order.
12. As a final check: Print the 77 report from Maintenance Mode and verify the serial number is correct. Press ▼ until "MAINTENACNE 77" is displayed on the LCD, and press OK. Press ▲ until "MAINTENACNE 99" is displayed on the LCD, and press OK.
Alternate Serial Number Entry Method
If the serial number does not appear on the Maintenance report or Printer Settings report, follow the steps below to Input the information. If using this method, the printer must be in the normal operating state and must be the ONLY ONE CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER. 1. Download and extract the USB Maintenance Tool (brmainte) from Brother Support Technical downloads. 2. Run the Brmainte.exe file 3. Select Menu -> Input Info 4. Choose the correct model from the drop down menu. 5. Select Serial No. 6. Input the 15 digit serial number in the box to the right, then press OK 7. Print out the 77 report following the steps listed in Steps 1 & 6 to verify the serial number.
