1.Preface
The procedure for temporarily recover the product whose ROM board has failed is described.
However, this procedure is only a temporary recovery. Please note the functional limitations.

2.Outline
The following new functions have been added to FW ver.HR31K1[T/I No. TE19-1209].
By using this function, it is possible to temporarily recover the machine in the event of a ROM board failure.

(1) The function to back up the information needed for temporary recovery held (from the ROM board to the Main board)
*1 Backup is performed only for product with FW installed newer than FW ver.HR31K1
*2 Depending on the state of the product, the timing of backup will differ.
・New (before initial charging): Backup is performed automatically after Power ON .
・Marketed product: Backup is performed automatically at the first boot after the target FW is installed.

(2) Restore the information backed up on the ROM board to a new ROM board (add a new menu in the service support mode).

3.Limitations
■ If FW ver.HR31K1 or later is not installed before ROM board failure, it can not be recovered temporarily.
■The total number of restore executions for each ROM board is limited. If the upper limit is exceeded,
an error screen will be displayed when the menu is executed. Please refer to 5. Remarks for details.
■The following limitations are additional to the temporary recovery period when the ROM board, Main failure.
(1) Print quality is not guaranteed.
(2) The following information is not restored to the new ROM board.
・Setting information (user setting, network, fax, address book, etc.)
・Life information(Consumables, Periodical replacement parts )
・History information (number of printed sheets, error history), etc.

Note: Each information can be recovered basically * by the recovery response (the ROM board returned from SEC is installed).
     However, the information during the temporary recovery period can not be transferd to the returned ROM board.  
    *
If the information storage area in the ROM board is damaged, it can not be recovered.

4.Procedure details of temporary repair


 Procedure for ROM Board failure
■Phenomenon of ROM Board failure
・Can not recover after replacing Main Board.
・Can not turn on  etc.

■Things to prepare
・New ROM board, Main (x1)
・PC and USB cable, with latest FW.
・Ink pack  (If backup data is data before initial filling, the ink filling process would be required.)
・Maintenance box (If backup data is data before initial filling, the ink filling process would be required.)

■Procedure
1.Prepare for repair work (turn off the power, release the current stored inside the machine, etc.).
2.Install the new ROM board, Main to the product.
3.Press the [power button] on the operation panel to turn on the product.
4.Perform FW update via PC.
✓Check Points
・Need to install the FW ver.HR31K1 or later.
・FW update via USB memory can not be performed.
 Note: The Epson Firmware Updater may not shut down by waiting for reboot of the printer after the FW update is complete.
In this case, please open the Task Manager and terminate the Epson Firmware Updater.
・When the FW update is completed, the following screen is displayed
(Do not operate because there is a possibility of a machine failure).
 Note: The following screen is always displayed at the time of restart until step 8 is performed.
5.After the FW update is complete, turn off the power.
6.Start the service support mode and select [ROM Board Restore:MENU].
7.Execute [ROM Board Restore]. The screen transition is as follows (1 → 2 → 3 → 4→ 5).

・When restoration of backup data is successful, the screen transition 4 is displayed.

8.Turn off the power and check that the user mode starts properly.
✓Check Points
・If backup data is data before initial filling, the following setting screen is automatically displayed at the time of first start, and ink filling starts.
Make settings as needed.
 1)Date/ Time Setting,2)Paper size setting for each cassette,3)FAX setting

5.Remarks
If restoration fails, the following two screens are displayed.

1)In case of the data has already been written to the new ROM board.
  Treatment: Install the new ROM board and execute restoration.
