WHAT IS AN EXPLANATION TEXT?

Explanation texts are pieces of writing


that explain something. It tell you how or
why something happens, or give
information on how to do something.

COMMUNICATIVE PURPOSE

Communicative purpose
of the Explanation text is
to explain the processes
that occur in the
formation or activity
associated with natural
phenomena, social,
science, culture, and
others that aim to
explain.

GENERIC STRUCTURE

A. General statement
It is located at the beginning paragraph, it tells the
phenomenon that has been issued.

B. Explanation
It tells the sequence process of how the
phenomenon occurs.

C. Conclusion
The conclusion paragraph should restate your thesis
and summarize the key supporting ideas.

LANGUAGE FEATURES

Use technical terms such as evaporation and


degradation if writing a water cycle explanation
text.
Action verbs and present tense such as runs,
develop and becomes.
Cause and effect terms such as because of.., due
to.., therefore, and as a result.
Using passive voice pattern.
Etc.

Social Media
Social media is a channel to get along and do with
connecting to the internet. Use can easily send
messages, share news and activities for other users.

Nowadays, social media has become the main


requirement for kids to adults. There are many
people ins this country using social media to
interact with each other.

The social media users must agree to use it as a


media to interact with each other, not to harm
themselves. Because basically, social media is a tool
to devote complaints. There are also some people
using social media to bully others.

Social media is a means of communication that


facilitates interaction between humans and can be
useful for educational facilities and others. However,
social media also has negative impact. If social
media are misused, it can have a great impact for
the victims. So, we need to be very careful in its use.

the impact of social media, and problems that
happens because of social media.

text?
To tell us that social media also have bad
impact if we don't use it wisely, and remind us
to be careful while using it.

many things are changed because of social
media, such as lifestyle. Everyone's addiction of
social media is the reason why it happens, so its
just happen naturally.

Tsunami
The term of “tsunami” comes from the Japanese
which means harbour (“tsu”) and wave (“nami”). A
tsunamigk is a series of waves generated when
water in a lake or the sea is rapidly displaced on a
massive scale.

A tsunami can be generated when the sea floor


abruptly deforms and vertically displaces the
overlying water. Such large vertical movements of
the earth’s crust can occur at plate boundaries.

Subduction of earthquakes are particularly effective


in generating tsunamis, and occur where denser
oceanic plates slip under continental plates.

As the displaced water mass moves under the


influence of gravity to regain its equilibrium, it
radiates across the ocean like ripples on a pond.

Tsunami always bring great damage. Most of the


damage is caused by the huge mass of water behind
the initial wave front, as the height of the sea keeps
rising fast and floods powerfully into the coastal
area.

Batik
Indonesia is a country which famous for its various
cultures, languages, traditions and traditional
clothing. One of important assets of that country is
Batik.

Batik is a work of art from cloth that passes through


the process of clipping to penglorodan. Batik was
approved by UNESCO on October 2, which became
an International Batik Day.

Batik now exists in various regions, and each region


has its own characteristics. The process of making
batik is divided into four namely batik, tie dye,
printing, and stamp.

It is not a short time to learn how to make batik.


Many batik industry workers work for 10 years
because the need for skilled and trained workers are
needed. It is not easy and takes a long time.

So, it can be concluded that we need to preserve


Indonesian batik, respect and protect it together.
