Preliminary Good morning class, before we start our lesson,

Activities everybody please stand up for a prayer. Please led

Willcie (pray). All right, before you can take your seat,
kindly pick up some pieces of paper or any garbage
under your chair (pick-up). Okay, thank you, class,
you may now take your seat. Let’s check your
attendance, is there any absent today? Okay, very
good, everybody from this class is present.
A. Reviewing the Once again, good morning my beloved students! Good morning ma’am!
previous lesson or
presenting the new Okay, before we proceed to our discussion this
lesson afternoon, let’s have a recap on our topic last
meeting. So who can still recall our previous lesson?
Please raise your right hand if you want to answer. (raise their hand)
Yes, Ivan? All right, very good, thank you Ivan (Ivan answered)

So class, last meeting we discussed the different hand

tools used to fix computers and their functions. Then,
we also discussed the safety rules for those hand
tools.

B. Establishing a All right! Eyes on our screen. As you can see we have I think ma’am, he is a
purpose for the here two pictures. technician who is
lesson So now class, what have you observed from the first troubleshooting a
picture? Yes, Richelle? system unit.

Very good, Richelle, the first picture is a technician

who is troubleshooting a system unit.

That’s right! how about the second picture? Yes,

Kenny? Okay, very good observation. The second
picture shows replacing or upgrading system unit
parts.

Okay, aside from that— Is there any other

observation from this group? Who among you here
has computers at home—laptop or desktop? Has
anyone of you experienced troubleshooting or maybe
upgrading of system unit? None, so far? In your own
idea, what are the steps/procedures involved in
troubleshooting or upgrading a system unit? Yes,
Divina? Exactly! thank you for the very good idea.
Okay, class, in troubleshooting and upgrading a
system unit, we need to undergo the proper
procedures of disassembling and assembling of a
system unit
So, what do you think will be our topic for this Our topic for this
afternoon? Yes, Judy Ann? morning ma’am would
Yes, exactly! Today we will be going to tackle the be about the different
proper steps for disassembling and assembling a parts of a system unit
system unit. and how to assemble
and disassemble a
system unit.

C. Presenting But, before that, let’s have an activity, I have here a

examples/instances picture of a system unit. For 5 minutes, I want you to
of the new lesson label the different parts of it. Just write your answer
on a ¼ sheet of paper. Okay, all done? Exchange your
paper with your seatmate. Let’s check if your answers
are correct. Number 1 is ………. Okay, who got a
perfect score? I know class, you are all familiar with a
system unit. Right? Okay, who can define what is a
system unit? Yes, Sherlyn? Okay very good, the
system unit is the box-like case that contains the
electronic components of a computer and it protects
the sensitive electronic parts from the outside
elements. I know some of you called it CPU, right?
Yes, I knew it because I also experienced that class.
Because before, I used to go to a computer shop.
Once, I got a seat, I asked the computer shop
attendant how I turn the computer because it is off
obviously. So, he answered me, turn on the CPU first.
But back then, I don’t know what is CPU. So I asked
him again, where is it ya? Then, he answered kanang
naas babaw na murag box kuno. So, since that day, I
assumed that the box-like part of a computer is called
a CPU. So, from now on class, please don’t call a
system unit, CPU. Understood? Okay enough with
that.
D. Discussing new Since you’re already familiar with the system unit,
concepts and now, let’s learn about the major components of a
practicing new system unit and each function. But beforehand, who
skills #1 wants to read our lesson objectives for this morning?
Yes, Cathy? Okay, thank you, you may now take your
seat.

We have here, the:

1. The Motherboard
- The motherboard is sometimes called the system
board or mainboard. It is the main circuit board of a
microcomputer.

Also, take note that, the motherboard is the

backbone that ties the computer's components
together at one spot and allows them to talk to each
other. Without it, none of the computer pieces, such
as the CPU, GPU, or hard drive, could interact. Total
motherboard functionality is necessary for a
computer to work well.

So, let’s proceed to #2, can you please read Judy

Ann?
2. Hard Disk Drive
- A computer hard disk drive (HDD) is a non-volatile
data storage device.
When we say, non-volatile class; it refers to storage
devices that maintain stored data when turned off.

Next is the
3. Power Supply Unit
- The power supply unit (PSU) is used to convert AC
or Alternative Currents from the main supply to the
different DC or Direct Currents voltages required by
various computer components.

And also take note class, that the Power Supply also
provides cooling and facilitates air through the case.

4. Optical Disk Drive

- An Optical Disk drive, also called disk drive, ODD, CD
drive, DVD drive, and BD drive, is a part of computer
hardware that is used for CDs/DVDs/BDs reading and
writing. It looks like a square box with a drawer.

You can press the open/close button to reject and

retracts the drive bay door. Optical disk drives can be
found in regular PCs and laptops, although they have
become less common in recent years. The optical disk
drive has many uses. It can be used to install systems,
software, and game. Or, it works as a storage media
to save videos, audio, documents, photos, etc.

Let’s proceed to #5, please read Meca.

5. Graphics Card
-A graphics card (also called a video card, display
card, graphics adapter, VGA card/VGA, video adapter,
or display adapter). It is used to create a picture on a
display.

Since it is an expansion card that generates a feed of

output images to a display device (such as a
computer monitor); without a video card, you would
not be able to see the page displayed on the
computer.

Before we proceed to the next, do you have any

questions/clarifications? Okay, none so far? Tell me if
I am too fast, okay? All right.

Next is the Sound Card, who wants to read #6? Yes,

please read Ella.
6. Sound Card
-The sound card is an expansion card that allows the
computer to send audio information to an audio
device, like speakers, a pair of headphones, etc.

There are many uses for a sound card like hearing

sound from a video game, listening to music or
movies, having the text read to you, etc.

7. CPU Fan and Heat Sink

-In most cases, a CPU fan and heatsink are used in
combination. The heatsink draws the heat away from
the CPU, and the fan ensures a steady stream of air
for the heatsink to pass the heat to.

And please take note class that without a CPU Fan

and Heat Sink, the processor could easily overheat
and become damaged. Therefore, this combination is
often found in most low- to mid-range computer
systems, and even in high-end notebooks.

8. System fan
a case fan/system fan is located inside a computer,
attached to the front or back of its case. Case fans
help bring cool air into and blow hot air out of the
case.
They are available in a wide variety of sizes, but
80mm, 92mm, and 120mm (12cm) with a width of
25mm are the most common.

9. CPU
The CPU is the brain of a computer, containing all the
circuitry needed to process input, store data, and
output.

So now, this tiny chip is called CPU class, not that

box-like case. Just like people, computers do also
have a brain and it is called the CPU. It does not just
serve as a brain but also it is the heart of the
computer. The CPU is constantly following
instructions from computer programs that tell it
which data to process and how to process it. Without
a CPU, we could not run programs on a computer.
For example, a simple calculator program might
instruct the CPU to take two numbers, 2 and 2, add
them, and send back the result.

The CPU can process those instructions easily, thanks

to a control unit that knows how to interpret
program instructions and an Arithmetic Logic Unit
(ALU) that knows how to add numbers. With the
control unit and ALU combined, the CPU can process
much more complex programs than a simple
calculator.

10. Modem Card

- A modem card is an internal type of modem that is
plugged into the PCI slot of a PC motherboard. A
modem is a communications device that allows a
computer to send and receive data through
telephone or cable lines.

(end of the discussion)

So, class, That’s all the major components of a system

unit.
Okay, do you have any questions/concerns about the
topic?
E. Discussing new Okay class, let’s now proceed to the procedures for
concepts and assembling and disassembling the computer unit.
practicing new But beforehand, here are the
skills #2
Examples of safety procedures  that are normally
observe in hardware systems:
These are the things class that you need follow in
order to avoid accident in working. Can you please
read the following Richelle?

1. Remove any metallic objects such as rings and
jewelries to avoid yourself from getting grounded.
2. Make sure that the computer is unplugged and off
before you touch anything.
3. Do not wear loose clothes.
4. Do not forced parts into computer ports.
5. Keep your area dry and clean.

I guess all of those are self-explanatory right? So who

can give me more example of the reminders before
starting to handle hardware systems? Yes, Meca?
Okay, very good Meca, who else? Yes, Rey? Yes, very
good. Thank you Rey.

Now, you knew the safety procedures to observe

before handling software/hardware systems. Let’s
proceed to the

Proper Procedure for Disassembling and Assembling

a system unit.

I want all of you to move your chair closer to the

front silently for I am going to demonstrate to you
the steps on how to disassemble a system unit.
Please do take note, in order for you to be guided on
our activity later. So the first step is

A. Personal Computer Disassembly

 Unplugging all the cables and wires
 Opening the outer shell / case
 Removing the system fan
 Removing the CPU Fan
 Detaching the power supply
 Removing the CD / DVD Drives
 Detaching the Hard Drive
 Pull Out the Motherboard

So, that’s all class the proper steps on how to

disassemble a system unit. Are you still following
class? Are there any questions or clarifications
regarding what we have discussed? Okay, good to
know, if you have any questions, just raise your hand,
okay?

Now, let’s assemble this system unit, of course

following also the proper steps. But this time, I
prepared a video tutorial for you also to have a copy
in case you will need it in the future. I will just upload
it on our Facebook group right after our class. I want
a volunteer to come here in front and will be the one
to demonstrate while following the video. Okay,
please be quiet and eyes on the front.

B. Personal Computer Assembly

 Prepare your workplace
 Prepare the Motherboard
 Install the CPU
 Install the CPU Heat Sink
 Install Memory (RAM Modules)
 Place the motherboard into the case
 Connect the Power Supply
 Install Graphics / Video Cards
 Install Internal Drives
 Install the Add- in Cards

So, that’s it class! Do you have any questions or

clarifications regarding to our topic? None, so far?
Are you sure? All right, I’ll be the one to ask question
then.

In your own understanding, why do we have to

follow the proper steps in assembling and
disassembling a system unit? Yes, Divina? Exactly,
you’re right very good, we have to follow the proper
steps in assembling and disassembling a system unit
to avoid damaging the computer components. And of
course, it is very important to follow the proper steps
so that your work will be easy and time-saving for
you.

So, now, are you ready for our activity today?

F. Developing But, before we start, I want you to clean your table.
mastery (Leads to Only the necessary materials and tools should be put
Formative above your table. Okay, all set?
Assessment 3)
Okay, let’s do an activity called—Activity: Build Me up

In this activity, you are going to clean the

components inside the system unit for which you
should follow the proper steps in assembling and
disassembling. And this a group activity. So, I want
you to group yourselves into 5 groups. And given the
necessary components, materials, tools, equipment,
and testing devices, each group will execute the
procedures in assembling and dissemble the
computer unit. Every group is only given 30 minutes
to do this task. Is 30 minutes enough for you? Okay,
good to hear, I guess all of you are excited.

But before you proceed to your group, I want all of

you to read this rubric used to assess your
performance.
RUBRIC

All right! Time’s up! As I have observed all of the

groups are cooperating and doing great.
Congratulations everyone, to a job well done!
G. Finding practical Having this knowledge and skill in PC Assembly and
applications of Disassembly, do you think it’s useful? In what sense?
concepts and skills You can cite a scenario. Yes, Willcie? Very good
in daily living Willcie. So class, having the knowledge and skill in PC
Assembly and Disassembly is useful in upgrading
computer parts or fixing hardware issues.
H. Making The primary function of the computer system unit is
