I. Executive summary
Due to lack of safe, clean and potable drinking water in Biruh Tesfa kebele for the past years the
community use river for drinking and domestic purpose since it’s the only source the river was
prone for contamination by floods, animal manure, and various wastes, this puts the community
at risk of Water-related disorders(diarrhea) were among the Keble’s top ten diseases to this end
our project was established safe water supply for the community.

One of the challenges related to environmental sanitation was improper waste storage and
disposal, at household and public area. Insects and rats used it as a breeding ground. The
population has been exposed to various diseases as a result of the foul odors arising from the
location as a result of the disposal of deceased animals. As a result of the pollution, the
community has become concerned. Sanitation campaign to improve proper waste disposal
practice in Biruh Tesfa kebele was successfully mobilized at different stage.

The community honored the initiatives and cheered the team, as well as the AMU, for their due
efforts and timely completion of the projects. They also conveyed a sense of pride in the newly
established water point. In terms of waste disposal, community members have demonstrated a
strong commitment to have a regular sanitation program and keeping their villages clean and h
The sources of budget were governmental offices, nongovernmental organizations and
community contribution. The overall budget fund for the projects were 126,200 ETB .

II. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
We would like to thank Arbaminch university DTTP coordination office for arranging this
practical field training program and giving us the opportunity to go through identification of the
actual community development problems and take part in problem solving activities.

Our special thanks also go to our supervisors for their unreserved help starting from the
orientation, constructive comments and support throughout this project. Last but not least, we
would like to extend our thanks to Kebele leaders, Health Extension Workers, GOs & NGO
leaders and staffs and the community at large for their cooperation in the accomplishment of our
Projects.
