Answer Key Exercise 2 Circular Motion

1. The document contains an exercise on circular motion with 6 problems. 2. Problem 2 asks for the angular velocity and centripetal acceleration of a 1m rope rotating at 5 m/s with a 20g load. 3. Problem 3 asks how the centripetal force changes if the frequency increases 4 times, stating the force increases 16 times. 4. Problem 6 provides the angular speed and radii of two connected wheels and asks for their relationship and the speed of the second wheel.

Exercise 2 circular motion
ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023
1. Complete the description on the side based on the circular motion

2. A rope with a length of 1 m, the end of which is given a load of 20 grams. Then, the rope
is rotated in a horizontal direction at a linear velocity of 5 m/s, find:
a. angular velocity, and
b. centripetal acceleration.

3. An object performs a circular motion, if its frequency is magnified 4 times from the original
frequency, then calculate the increase in the present centripetal force compared to the
previous centripetal force.

4. An electron in a hydrogen atom moves in a circular path with a radius of 0.45  . The
electron experiences an attractive force to the center of the path of 2 × 10 -7 N. What is the
speed of the electron, if the mass of the electron is 9 × 10 -31 kg?

5. A car is rotating on a rounded car track that has a diameter of 23 meters and it is going at
an angular velocity of 0.5 rad/s, if we know that from that moment the driver accelerates
0.01rad/s for 2 seconds, calculate the total radians that he rotate and the distance.
6. Two rotating wheels are connected as shown below!

If the radius of the first wheel is 20 cm, the radius of the second wheel is 10 cm and the
angular speed of the first wheel is 50 rad / s, find the wheels relations and the angular speed
of the second wheel!

2 Given : 6

R=1m

m = 20 gr =0,02 kg

v = 5 m/s

Asked :

a. ...?
b. a sp . . . ?
Solution :

v 5
a.    5 rad
s
R 1
2

b. a  vR
sp
 25 rad 2

3 Given: 6

Ffinal = 4finitial

Asked:

F sp
. . . .?

solution :

Fs = m ω² R
Fs = m (2πf)² R
Fs = 4π² f² R

The centripetal force is directly proportional to

the square of frequency.

If the original frequency is 4 times the

centripetal force will be 4² = 16 times the
original

or by comparison
Fs2 / Fs1 = (f2 / f1)^2
Fs2 / Fs1 = (4f / f)^2
Fs2 / Fs1 = 16
Fs2 = 16 Fs1 ←
4 Given : 6

R = 0,45  = 0,45 x 10-10 m

F sp
= 2 × 10-7 N

m = 9 × 10-31 kg

asked: v . . . .?

solution:

F sp
 mv
R
𝑣2
2 × 10−7 = (9 × 10−31 )
0.45×10−10

2 × 10−7 = (20 × 10−21 )𝑣 2

2×10−7
𝑣2 = = 0.1 × 1014
20×10−21

𝑣 = √100 × 1011 𝑚/𝑠

5 Given: 8

d = 23 m

𝜔 = 0.5 rad/s

𝛼 = 0.01 rad/s

t=2s

Asked: ɵ and s?

solution:
1
Θ = ωo × t + 𝛼𝑡 2
2

1
Θ = 0.5 × 2 + × 0.01 × 22
2

Θ = 1.02 rad

We find the diameter

R = diameter / 2

R = 23 / 2

R = 11.5

And we find the distance S

S=Θ×R
S = 1.02 × 11.5

S = 11.73 m

6 Given : 6

𝜔1 = 50 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠

𝑅1 = 20 𝑐𝑚 = 0,20 𝑚

𝑅2 = 10 𝑐𝑚 = 0,10 𝑚

Asked :
a. a. wheel relations ?
b. b. ω2 = ...?

solution :

a. The connection between the two wheels is a non-slip

wheel connection which is connected by a belt / rope.
b. 𝑣1 = 𝑣2
𝜔1 𝑅1 = 𝜔2 𝑅2
𝜔2 𝜔1
=
𝑅1 𝑅2
𝜔2 50 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠
=
0,20 𝑚 0,10 𝑚

50 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠.0,20𝑚
𝜔2 =
0,10 𝑚
10 𝑟𝑎𝑑 𝑚 /𝑠
𝜔2 =
0,1 𝑚
𝜔2 = 100 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠
